IS 300 Encounter

Tonight I encountered a brand new Lexus IS300 on the strip (I live in Vegas). It was so funny, because the guy kept commenting on how much he loved my G35 and how nice it was. I replied with a "heads up" and thanked him for his compliment but did not return one to him. He mentioned something about wishing he bought the G35 instead before the light turned green and he drove off.

The funny thing was, I couldn't tell what he was driving at first and thought it was a Civic until he pulled away. I always thought the IS300 was pretty generic looking (not bad, just bland).

Re: IS 300 Encounter

I just went to ebay and looked at one for really the first time. Man that car does absolutely nothing for me. It really does look like an entry level car like a civic.

I see them on the road all the time in Houston. A lot of
them have performance exhausts, ha! They are just
too ricy for me.

Re: IS 300 Encounter

IMOP the IS300 is a better looking car but it lacks a powerful engine which is why I bought a G35...

You could have paid the guy a compliment even if you didn't really mean it... I am sure now he thinks G35 drivers are a bunch of stuck up jerks.

I would have but he was too busy going on and on before I could say anything not to mention I thought it was a Civic until he drove off.

Imagine if you'd said 'hey, your Civic's not too bad looking either'!

Re: IS 300 Encounter

I think the IS300 looks ok, it just doesn't perform. It seems you have to have at least 240HP these days to stand a chance.

Re: IS 300 Encounter

yeah i think the IS300 looks decent but not enough to catch my attention.

actually, the nicest looking IS300 i've ever seen belonged to a guy from here (g35driver.com). but that's only b/c he modded the crap out of it. i think he sold it and bought a G35 coupe.

Re: IS 300 Encounter

Lexus GS/IS have been way ahead of the game when it came to styling. Remember when the GS/IS came out and everybody was drooling over them? How many ricers out there changed their lights to make it look like the Lexus' lights? I think because of the lights, people think that it's been played out! Of course, it's time for Lexus (besides the ES330) to get a facelift. Nissan/Infiniti has been having good years with the success of the G35-FX35/FX45- and 350Z

Re: IS 300 Encounter

I agree with you that the IS styling is a bit dated which is why it really reminds me of a 1995 model Civic. Not bad looking, just not Lexus-like" in appearance.

Re: IS 300 Encounter

At least the new '04 IS300 are getting smoke gray taillights and headlight surroundings, instead of the chrome "ricey" looking taillights.

Re: IS 300 Encounter

G35 Sedan is geared toward more luxury than the IS300.

IS300 is the sport sedan for lexus since there is plenty or luxury model in the brand.

Both cars are great. Just different in there direction of marketing.

To each there own. Here is my is300.

Nice Civic buddy. Just kidding! I have to admit your IS looks great lowered with rims. To bad the G doesn't come in yellow!
