05 Sedan Warped Rotors - Warranty/Cost

Hello All!

I have an 05 Sedan with 33K miles. The front rotors are definitely warped. The dealer confirmed this when I had my G in for a squeak fix. Any who, they said my brakes were shot and my rotors were warped. Quoted cost of new brakes and and resurfacing came to $210. I told them that I would hold off on the brake repairs until next month. In the mean time, I poped a wheel to have closer look at the pads. Contrary to what Inifinti told me, my pads had a considerable amount of life left. With that all being said, I have two questions:

1. Are warped rotors covered under warranty or are they considered normal wear and tear?

2. Is it policy with Infiniti Service to replace the pads if the rotors are resurfaced?

I cannot answer on the warranty, but if your rotors are warped you want to replace the pads. Even though they look as if they have a lot of life on them, the pads are worn to the warped rotor. Your old pads are worn to the warped rotor pattern and if you use the old pads it may significantly affect brake performance.

I agree with lowboy72. However, if you are re-surfacing your rotors, why not replace the pads with aftermarket ones? There's so much choice out there. Better performance, longer life and low/no dusting if you choose the right pads. I bought a set of PBR pads when my car had 20K miles on. My rotors were fine. I now have over 30K miles on her. NO dusting. NO squealing. BETTER feel by a long shot. Not sure about pad life yet since I didn't check them on the first rotation. I will on the next rotation for sure.
I hear good things about Hawk and Stillen pads as well. Just a thought.

I just had mine resurfaced by the dealer at 23k miles covered under warranty for a 2005 Sedan. The pads are not covered as they are considered a normal wear and tear item. They ARE covered under warranty for 03-04 models. I think if 05-06 owners complain enough we may get the pads covered eventually.

jacemace, is your G an X? They changed the brakes on the sedan in '05, but didn't on the X, which made no sense IMO, but the '06 X has the bigger, cleaner brakes. The brakes on my '05 don't have a dusting problem, and appear to be wearing well at almost 10k, BTW, my '04 needed new front brakes at 15k.

If your rotors are warped, I would replace them with new ones. Resurfacing will only true and already warped rotor. 5K down the line, your rotors will be warped again

As for pad wear, you have to look at the rear pad that is against the piston as it will wear considerably more than the front pad.

I took my 2005 G35X to the dealer for 15,000 mile service and to check out my squealing front brakes. I was told that I needed new pads and rotors and that none of the work would be covered under warranty. Infiniti extended the brake warranty for the '03s and '04's but not the '05s. Both the dealer and Infiniti customer service said that enough people complain the brake warranty will be extended to cover the '05 model year.
Please complain to Infinity customer service at 800-662-6200.

I dont' think there are many aftermarket pad choices for the bigger 05 brakes yet

I believe the rotors and pads aren't warrantied after 12k, unless there's defects.
and yes, new pads usually go with new/reconditioned rotors.
