Ideas: Possible Fix for window rattling
Ideas: Possible Fix for window rattling
I have been in and out of the dealer several times trying to fix my windows rattling/squeaking problems
Yet, the front two windows' rattling/squeaking keep on coming back..and the sound is like rubber squeaking on the window whenever I go over bumps or uneven terrain
I am thinking to apply some Lithium grease (where they are usually used for auto door hinges) on the upper rim of the window such that some of the grease will rest on the rubber seal inside...
Yet, I am not sure if there is any problem with applying Li grease there..
any advice?

You don't say what year your car is, but see the attached link: http://infinitihelp.com/Ownership/Bu.../ITB03-071.htm
First see if you have the felt strip or not. Then use the silicone (not lithium, yuk) spray from 3M as directed.
Thanks for the comment =)
I have indeed searched.. and the TSB has been applied by my dealer
(with the felt pad + the shortening of the bolts at the bottom of the window assy)
FYI: my car is 2004 sedan
Yet, the rattling just keeps on coming back..
and my biggest concern to this possible fix is that whether Lithium grease is safe for the rubber seal + is the Lithium grease good for window tint? cause I plan to apply some Lithium grease (and spread evenly) onto the top rim of the window and just close it and re-do this a few times to have the Lithium grease "lubricates" the rubber seal at the top part of the door assy
FYI: the dealer said they have applied the silicone based grease.. yet, the rattle just seems to come back after like 2 weeks, which makes me think that it is the grease that has been worned out too quickly
As of now, I believe I will ditch the idea of Lithium grease, but stick with silicone grease for awhile and keep reapplying =)

I havent searched on this paticular rattle so flame away... I have 05 and there seems to be an unstoppable rattle coming from the passenger tweeter. Any one find away to deal with it? The dealer has been very helpful and has ordered a new assy to replace the one in my door now.
Both the dealer and I have added felt and rubber dampeners to prevent this. If the passenger places their finger on the tweeter grill the rattle stops but nothing else had worked.

I guess just like what have been said, the felt pad is working the way it should be: to reduce the rattling..yet, I guess the seal is still rubbing against the window, which causes the squealing
Thus, I believe I would try to reapply silicone grease every now and then according to the TSB
However, does anyone know if we have to take anything apart to re-apply the grease? coz the TSB isn't very clear on this

yet, which part of the weather seal you have taken off easily?
cause I am wondering if I need to take off anything to reapply

EDIT: correct me if I am wrong, according to the TSB, we only need to remove the door glass run (weatherstrip) when installing the felt tape?
