I am trying to decide which XM radio to get for my 05 G35 sedan.
Has anyone installed an after market XM Satellite radio in there car?
If so, which one did you get and where did you have it placed?

Cannot help you on the XM selection, I tried them both out in friends cars and liked Sirius a lot better. My Alpine DVD player in my other car will work with either service depending on the tuner kit you get to attach.

Sat radio is garbage...i will guarentee u wont be using 85 % of the stations available...don't do it to yourself for it is a waste of $...why don't you invest into an ipod adapter?

True - and its free! I like how they say commercial free - but I still hear commercials on XM - false advertising until you read the fine print they say most likely there won't be 2 channels with ads on - so whats diff btw that and traditional air broadcast?

The difference is that even on those channels that have advertising, it's minimal compared to most commercial radio stations. And there are many channels that are advertising free. naturally, you won't use most of the channels since most of us have a musical or style preference. This is an each to their own decision but for me, satellite radio is worth every penny. Also, the choice between Sirius and XM depends on your taste and each company's programming. If you are into sports, then each company features different sports. Sirius has NFL and NBA. XM has MLB and NHL. So go for it if you are like me and resent the number of commercials. One last thought, that Ipod is not "free". You have to buy music to load onto it. This will be a forever ongoing expense.

Sirius doesn't have commercials- at least not on the 19-channels in the Rock category (Octane 20 fav). I like to be able to drive from one side of the state to another with the same station and no interference.
Why would you need an IPod if the factory stereo already plays MP3's (05/06). Throwing 100+ MP3's on a CD is next to nothing compared to the cost of an IPod or better yet a real MP3 player. Sly-pod= Great marketing- poor performance: don't drink the kool-aid. My engineering opinion only, to each his own.

I have XM, and the only things I hear that even resemble a commercial, are promo's for XM programming, I mean, you even get those on HBO, I have yet to hear a commercial. Sure, there's way more than you could ever listen to, but it's nice to have the ability. I like it!

I have a Pionner Inno XM radio installed in my coupe. It's mounted to a panavise bracket. It's a great little radio I can take it out and continue listening to live programming, recorded programs, or mp3 files.

Yes I know I have to clean up the wiring.

Benifit of Sat is you can go cross country and still listen to your favor music with out searching for a radio station in every county...

I was just about to ask where people were mounting aftermarket SAT radios as well, since I just got my G35 and I have a portable XM MYfi. However last night I discovered that the pervious owner must have pre-paid for Sirius.

I personally like SAT radios because they have 98% less commercials, you don't have to worry about finding new radio stations on long trips and the comedy stations are pretty funny.

Hmmm, I wonder why the previous owner wouldn't just transfer his service to a new radio, or at least get a refund for the unused months, don't be surprised if it all of a sudden goes away.

Does anyone else have issues with the sound quality coming from their XM? I have an 06 g35 with the factory xm, and when I switch between FM and XM, I hear no noticeable difference in quality whatsoever.

In fact, with XM, it almost seems to be muffled, less quality than FM. I've never had XM satellite radio before. Is this supposed to be normal? Or is sound quality supposed to be noticeably better? Any ideas on what the problem may be, if there is one?

wcs - XM (and Sirius) are not CD-quality. The bitrate is much lower than you would think, as they need to be able to compress all the channels into a single stream into your car. At least with satellite you eliminate any static like you can get with FM. I've heard that in XM will be offering 5.1 Dolby channels in the future, a couple to start.

Regardless, I love XM and don't know how I lived without it. No commercials on the music channels is awesome.
