What tire pressures do you run?
What tire pressures do you run?
I have a 2003.5 5AT sedan. Usually it's just me in the driver's seat, haven't had a rear passenger yet. The rear tires seem to break loose a little easily, especially when the streets are wet. Now, I am not new to RWD cars (or trucks). I own a '74 Corvette with 454 crank HP, and daily drove a '96 Corvette LT-4 for a couple years, not mention my pickup trucks.
Speaking of which, airing down the rear tires on the pickups really helps with traction when the bed is unloaded and the weight is biased to the front.
The door sticker on the G says 30 psi front and rear tires, but these stickers are for when the car is fully loaded.
Long way to ask, but if it is just you (and maybe your SO in the front seat) what tire pressures do you run? I am thinking 30 front is OK, but maybe 28 rear? Stock 17s and stock tires size but Goodyear tires, which came with this used car.
Thanks,
Jeff

im driving on 45 psi all around. i used to had it at 30 but it seems to float abit. too comfy for me since i go for the sportier drive so 45 is perfect for me. and for me it seems that the 45 psi has better handling. i drive alot more fun now. plus the fact that unlike 30 psi the tire icon doesn't pop up everytime the weather changes.

Jeff, i'd run em at 35 all around, if you have to go lower, i'd say 32 at the least all around

Thanks for the responses, guys. I will try 35, maybe I am running a little low for the more spirited driving I sometimes get into.
Interesting that everyone seems to be running higher pressures than the manufacturer specified...

My Sedan suggested 30lbs. pressure, but I ran 34 to 35 lbs. and liked it.

I much prefer a performance ride which is biased toward firm and hard, so I ran 35 or so in my Sedan and loved it.
I second guessed the manufacturer and hoped that I didn't compromise safety at all. There is a limit, tho, such as I described in my post above to NonAme.

i run 32 psi all the way around. 35 just seems too stiff for me.

The G sucks in the rain, and the car just loves to kick the tail out in general.
The weight distribution and adjusting tire pressure is not the same at all to a pickup truck. The 03 and 04 G's have a 53%/47% front/rear weight distribution setup, and gets even closer to 50/50 with a full tank of gas and the driver on board.
More tire pressure will provide better traction, up to a certain point. Your best bet is to run 30psi all around, maybe try 32psi all around....don't put more pressure in the front. The 30psi full load rating is also for the best handling and traction. Less pressure will provide a more comfortable ride, but less handling performance and traction.
