Re: Question about traction control

Hey ryoken, Not sure if it was this forum or F/A, but there was some discussion on the subject of pushing the VDC-off
button some time ago. Could have been 3-4 months.
Anyway the uphsot of it all was that when the VDC-off button was pushed (once) for just a second, this disabled the VDC and a corresponding 'VDC-off' light lit up on the display.
BUT: if the VDC-off button was pushed for something like 15-20 seconds (my Sedan took 15 seconds, Coupe takes 10) then the VDC goes into default mode which is VDC on. That's why the VDC-off light goes back off. It defaults to staying on. As to why it does that - who knows. Probly something to do with a test of some kind or maybe an 'Easter Egg' (Hidden program) of some kind.
As far as the LSD tying into the system. I don't think so, not electronically. I believe LSD is purely mechanical.
I also heard that the VDC and the ABS systems are linked electronically and work together only because you can't turn each off separately as you can on the Japanese version.--Check out the blank place (forward of the passenger electric seat rocker switch) on the console for another rocker switch.
So what does all this mean? I'm not sure how much the VDC and ABS systems control the car, and more importantly when the systems are turned 'off' whether or not they are actually turned off or just 'partially' diabled, thereby allowing wheelspin, racing on a track, smokey burnouts, or whatever.
There's so little info available, that so far it's a matter of trial and error. Some guys can spin the wheels at will, others can't even get a 'chirp'. We'll have to experiment and post results.

Re: Question about traction control

I've seen the spot for the extra rocker switch.. forward and to the right of the gear shift. It would be on the driver's side in Japan, and I thought I read somewhere (in these forums, maybe?) that it was for a winter mode for the transmission.

Re: Question about traction control

The TCS ( Traction control system ) and VDC is described on page 5-18 on the manual. The last paragraph on that page did mention that when VDC is turned off, the brake LSD and ABS still operate.

I am attaching the manual in PDF so you guys can check things right away. I'll let the moderator to decide if the attachment is too big and shall be removed

Re: Question about traction control

If you turn off VDC, the stability control turns off. I tested it by simply pushing the switch, cranking the wheel, and gunning it. I did a donut easily. With VDC off, there isn't even any wheelspin off the line for me, it just cleanly pulls away. Brake torquing seems to spin them a bit.
