Sideskirts
Yeah i was thinking about painting my sideskirts on my 03 sedan. i was wondering if there is a DIY on how to remove my sideskirts ? I've searched but came up with nothing. Also I have a few questions abbout the painting is it:
1 sand (What grits?)
2 Primer
3 paint 5-6 coats of color desired
4 2-3 coats of clearcoat?
Can you guys suggest what brands i should get the primer/spraypaint/clearcoat from. Thanks!

Maybe this thread can help you. You might pm Big Sash.

I had tried to do it a month ago it came out decent but didnt match exactly i then saw his thread a week after i did it. I pm Big sash and basically he didnt help at all...his friend that he paid basically did everything and could not offer any information in primers/paints or sanding.. he told me to ask a local paint shop. So yea...i guess try doing that to i got recommended to a shop to do it from damayor cuz i live near him. in ny.
so basically you gotta take it to a shop

yeah but plastic is plastic and there are typically more links out there on painting engine covers than there are painting side skirts

Although both are plastic, I think painting the sides is a bit more difficult to do. Paint matching and prepping is a bit more involved. One might not have to use flex agent in the engine cover. But for the sideskirts, it's mandatory. Plus painting a cover could be done with a can. I wouldn't do that for the sideskirts.

can tell ya from experience....DEFINATELY NOT the same
the basic principles still apply sanding/priming/painting/wetsanding/polishing, etc. the flex agent/additive is necessary (from what i understand) if you plan on installing the body piece soon after you've finished painting. for plastics you definitely want an adhesion promoter. i've painted the engine covers, and other misc pieces. i plan on tackling the sides and rears also. and i will agree with what others have said, painting is not as simple as some make it out to be.
i don't pretend to be an expert when it comes to painting, but i will say that there is a wealth of information out there, and "painting engine covers" is a good way to start learning. should you expect a professional job going the DIY route? probably not, i mean let's be honest it's a profession right. but w/ the right amount of research, equipment, and dedication, you could probably come close.

You may want to consider sending a PM to Chad at Infinitispecalists and see how much he can get you the Nismo sides for. It might be worth it to just get them and be done. They'll come matched.
