From the 15th floor at my son's orthodontist the other day, I looked down at my G sedan. I was surprised by how long the car actually looked from above.
Nice sexy shape, kinda phallic actually! But then, in my field everything looks phallic![img]/w3timages/icons/blush.gif[/img]

 

The reason the window sticker states G35 sedan as a compact is because EPA(Environmental Protection Agency) claims the total Volume(Passenger and Cargo Volume) of our car is 95+11=106 cubic feet. According to EPA, sedans with total volume between 100 to 109 cubic feet are considered compact. From 110 to 119 cubic feet, it's a midsized. For example, Lexus ES300 has passenger volume of 96 cubic feet, which is only one cubic feet larger than G35 sedan, but ES300 has 15 cubic feet of cargo volume(in sedan's case, it's the trunk space), so the total volume of ES300 is 96+15=111 cubic feet, which falls in the mid-size category. ES300 is bigger than G35 mainly from the trunk. The following are the volume of some sedans that I found in this Fuel Economy for model year 2003 booklet:

First number is the passenger volume, second number indicates the cargo volume

Don't say definitely that it is a mid-sized.

Here's a nugget of info for you. Jaguars' flagship car, the XJ sedan, is a compact!
