I think there's a balance to be struck here. I'm one of those guys who has 20's on their car, but at the same time have z-springs, and tokico shocks on the way to improve the handling of the car.
If I were going for all out performance, I agree totally with your assessment. Having said that, my car still handles quite well, and is enjoyable to drive, but still looks good. Yes it slows it down a bit, but again, i'm not looking for tenths of seconds.
I had a BMW before this, and I would have never put 20's on it, because the car would have looked silly with them. The G on the other hand is designed in such a way that I think 19's and 20's look just right (depending on style of rim).

If I liked the look of any of the 17's, I'd downgrade from my 18's. Putting 20's on this car, NA, to me is like slamming a jeep wrangler; counter productive.

There are a couple reasons not to do this (IMO), and one is mentioned a few times above. Performance. Doing 20's will definately slow you down. On that we all agree. But it's not just the weight. It's also where the weight is. Further from center. So the acceleration change will be more than just a little. As for handling, you may suffer as well. Too many people think that wider tires or bigger wheels will help handling. It's usually the opposite, unless it's done carefully with other suspension changes that match the tire/wheel changes. I venture to say that most folks just buy a bunch of parts and hope it all works out.
Appearance. Again, this is my opinion, but there is nothing worse than 20's on a car with relatively small brakes. On my SRT8, the 20's look good because they were made for the car to begin with, and they also have 14.2" Brembo's behind them. I have seen so many wheel upgrades with stock brake setups that look really, really bad because the rotors inside look like dimes compared to the wheels. The G would be no exception. The brake rotors need to occupy most of the space inside the wheel to look good. So if you do big wheels and don't care about perfomance, do yourself a favor and upgrade the brakes.

The day before I placed my order I ran the offsets by you to make sure I will get it as flush with the fender as possible, but without rubbing (I've been down that road before). Jline told me 3 times that they expect fitment issues, and that they have their own offsets they'd like to use... I insisted on them using my custom offsets (and they told me they wouldn't be responsible for any fitment problems).
Thanks again Chico for the advice. The wheels are 20x8 +35 / 20x9.5 +45. I'll post a new thread documenting all I've done in the last 5 months once I get a couple more parts in.
