Are all G35 sedans 03 and 04 made in Japan??
Are all G35 sedans 03 and 04 made in Japan??
Just a really stupid question. Are all G35 sedans made in Japan? Because I was just looking at the piece of window sticker I have and it desn't say anything about the origin of the car. Thanks and sorry for being so paranoid.
Re: Are all G35 sedans 03 and 04 made in Japan??
Just look at the first digit in the VIN. If it's a "J," then it was made in Japan. Other digits are 1 and 4 for US made vehicles, 2 for Canada, 3 for Mexico, W for Germany (I think?), and I can't remember the rest (such as Sweden and UK).
So, you can walk up to any car, look at the first digit in the VIN, and tell where it was assembled.

Re: Are all G35 sedans 03 and 04 made in Japan??
I think it depends what you mean by 'made'. My sticker says 'Final Assembly Point: Los Angeles' and my VIN starts with 'J'. Clearly the parts and assembled groups of parts came from Japan, but the final assembly was in LA for me. Does that mean 50% or would putting US custom stickers and the like qualify as final assembly point. Not sure.
Anyhow, here are some sites that explain the VIN

I believe "LA" is the "port" when you hear the phrase "port installed options." Splashguards, for example, are probably "assembled" at the port rather than at the Japan plant. But, the line that the G rolls off of is in Japan.

yeah my sticker said something like "final assembly port: los angeles." i asked about it and got the same explanation.

Actually, the fact they are made in Japan is one factor which delayed my purchase.
I would really have preferred to buy American. Too bad that, in this class, American cars were well down the list. My second choice was a Japanese car built in the US.

yupe..you are correct...
Japanese car is much better. I used to own Mitsu 2003 Eclipse GTS. That car was made in IL. First I was impressed with the ride and all, but after couple of months it started to fail. And my other car is 2002 Nissan Max. The Max is running much better than the Mitsu. Finally I traded in that car with my new G about 3 mo. ago. Never ever I will buy any other car than Nissan. It's hard to believe that I work for gasket company, and we send stuff to every car mfg. My co worker from QC said that Nissan plant is the cleanest of the bunch, and Chrysler is the worst. She saw a worker smoked and the ashes were all over the oil pan, and the worker doesn't even bother to wipe it. It's a scary thing.

Vehicle identification number
The first digit of all vehicles represents the country of origin.
I think all G35 models were manufactured in Japan, there's a metal sticker in the engine bay that will tell the assembly plant location.
Nice necro btw, almost a 20 year old thread!
