Help G Men/Women

I'm considering buying a G/leather/sport/sunroof. I like the extra rear air vents, homelink/mirror, and the auto on/off light features in the premium package but I don't want to pay for al the extra stuff that I don't want..The dealer wasn't too fourth coming weather you can buy that stuff separately. Can you? Are the air ducts in the console and is it just a matter of adding the different armrest? Is there a power harness up in the roof panel to hook up the homelink mirror? Is the auto on/off light feature just a plug in black box? Thanks for your advice..

I doubt you'd be able to install parts of the premium package after the fact. Some of them are a little more integrated than you'd think. The auto headlights, for instance, requires a difference light control stalk on the steering column. Plus, the light sensor for the auto headlights is actually part of the rear-view mirror w/ the homelink buttons and auto-dimming. Also, realize that the cost of the premium package includes the sunroof, which you stated that you want.

Of course, in my opinion, the premium package is actually a little short on features.

I believe you still can find some pre-2003.5 model on the market which sunroof are sold seperately from preminum.
but I doublt you can buy 2003.5 G35 with sunroof but no premium.

By the time you get the parts and installation costs in, it'll be less hassle to just pay off the option package. Why waste time and efforts, splurge a little because you'll enjoy the car a heck of a lot more with the extra features and without the hassles.

I too wanted the minimum on my G when I was going to purchase. I had to get the premium package for the options I wanted, but I am much more happier that I got it. Even if you could order the seperate parts yourself, you would probably go over the price of the premium package because you would have to get the dealer to order and install the parts in order to keep your warranty.

Re: Help G Men/Women

you can still get the sunroof as a stand alone option w/o the premium package. but you do need luxury leather to get the sunroof, i believe.

there is a way to get auto on/off headlights with a little wiring but it definitely won't be the same as having them in there stock. you lose some controls when you do it. this should've been a standard feature. what luxury car doesn't have this standard these days?

i had the same dilemma when i was choosing whether or not i wanted the premium pkg. the main reason i wanted it was so i could get the xenon lights (which weren't standard at the time and required prem.). basically, it came down to what the advantages of the features were.. the prem pkg is good if you always have passengers in your car. obviously, the rear vents and the reclining seats are for your rear passengers.. the dual climate control and power seats are there for a front passenger. everyone shares in the bose system, but i find the factory system isn't that bad. all you really have to do is add a sub, which you can in the same place as the bose sub in the back w/ a custom box for probably half the price of the bose system.. but then again, it's not bose. the homelink is a nice feature, but i live in an apt complex, hence no garage door to open. (i do miss the auto dimming feature tho, which i had on my 4runner). and memory seats would've been nice.. my sister's X5 has this.. it makes it easier to get in and out of the car.. but i'm not that tall, so it isn't hard to get out in the first place..

so, i'd just break things down and see what you need compared to the price.. is paying an extra $2000 worth it? if the benefits exceed the cost, then i'd say go for it. if not, you'll never miss 'em.
