Having shifting issue, need advice

Hello All,

I've got an 05 6mt sedan.

My problem is sometimes I get distracted or lazy or whatever and when I shift I don't put the shifter in all the way and release the clutch and there is this buzzing grinding sound.

I'm trying to figure out what, if anything, this is damaging and what I can do to avoid having this happen to me again

Just today I was about to shift to 5th on the highway and someone started honking. I got distracted, slowed my shfit, but my foot released the clutch pedal and there you have it...

It's happened 3 times in 3rd (2 of those times I missed the gate while trying to shift very fast), once in 5th, and once in 6th.

Anyone know what the worst is that could happen, what exactly happens, and what I could do to avoid having this happen again?

learn how to drive stick, lol

If you keep doing it its going to mess up the gears then your transmission will be shot.

How can it mess up the gears? The gears not separate entities...

check out this explanation on how a manual tranmission works:

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/transmission.htm

My best guess is the dog teeth are not meshing up right and just missing their contact points... worst case (I would think) would be to loose a tooth.

Are you kidding? This isn't a shifting issue, it's a driver issue bro. You ask what to do, I suggest you unfvck yourself...

You said it all. Focus, and life is good.

Even though it's happened only a few times, I'm very bothered by it. I think perhaps I'm too comfortable when I'm driving the G. )

+100000000000. Unfvck yourself, hahahahahaha! You're killing me GW.

Seriously bay, knowing how to drive does not just mean hanging onto the steering wheel and missing stationary objects. LEARN TO DRIVE and then learn to shift. You may want to start with walking an obsticle course and chewing gum at the same time (ok a little harsh, but trying to make a point)

I have always been amazed at how even if I do a lazy shift, it still manages to slide right in.

Well, if you already knew the answer why ask the question?

You're grinding your gears. Yes, it can cause damage. The solution is to make sure you engage the gear before letting off the clutch.

There's really no answer to your question that you didn't already know.

^^^ sorry bout them.
I am not a manu guy, but your powertrain warranty should be pretty extensive. If your tranny starts to feel awkward during normal shifts, than bring it in to the dealer - they should replace it n/p.

we all get lazy everyonce in awhile.

It should be obvious - you are grinding gears. How to avoid it? Are you serious?
