getting a little scared - VDC

so I'm on my way to work and have to pull a u-turn to get on the Bronx River Parkway (great design, NYC DOT!!!) Anyways, I decide to turn hard and see if VDC would kick in as it usually does and correct the skid.

It didn't

After a second of screeching, I corrected the car myself and avoided colliding with a sign post. Any ideas as to what could be going on? I know it kicked in a couple of weeks ago in some harsh rain.

Of course the VDC will not come on if you have it turned off!

One day when it was very wet, my VDC was half awake. Most of the time, it kicks in right away. I see no reason to hit the gas if I know the VDC is going counter my motions. I wouldn't depend on it like that because some day you might forget you have the VDC off.

I always keep VDC on; I find indicator lights very annoying.

this is what I notice about the vdc..whenever you have a good amount of brake...the vdc kicks in..and its very abrup....if my brakes are low..the vdc does not kick on...after I change to a new tire setup, the vdc never kick in once..I wonder that could be the case..hmmm..

the VDC does kick in last second compared with other cars that do come on too soon. Lexus and their VSC system will actually turn back on so if you're doing a burnout or drifting it'll just turn back on even after you physically shut it off.

just don't rely on the VDC yes it is there to help prevent skidding and traction loss but only to a certain extend -- especially won't work on pot holes

The warning light usually lights up if there's a problem with the VDC or if it's turned off.
If you're not sure if it's working or not, take it in to the dealer. There are fuses in the circuits that may be at fault.

My experience with the VDC system is a violent correction of the car. It works but it beats the shyt out of the driver...but the car is OK and so is the driver in the long run.

I'll check on the brakes tomorrow and change if needed. It's functioning because it came on during a storm at take off.

I know it's there to help, not to rely on, but it should work in the scenario I put it in this morning.

+1. I had it come on the other day on a wet road while I was changing lanes. Damn! The wiggle and shake wasn't fun, but I was sure relieved when the car ended up going straight.

I have had it bit me in the azz 3 times. 2 of them with wet tires and the last one was out of no where. I think there might have been oil on the road way as I just lost it. Here I am going around a corner, nothing major, not speeding as I had breakfast bagels and OJ in the pass seat and blam the car is all over the place. I just took my foot off the gas and she slowed to a crawl. I have never had that happen on that corner ever. I have driving that road since I was 16. Crazy but it saved my azz I guess. The other 2 times was wet tires and crosswalk paint-undersatndable on my end.
