Another Mustang Story
I just got my G35 a little over a week ago. This morning I read a post on this site about someone taking on a Mustang and leaving it behind, so when I was driving home from work today, the Mustang behind me grabbed my attention.
I was in front at the light and he changed lanes to be on my right. I thought I would wait to see what his intentions were so I sat tight. When the light changed he took off, so I knew I was being challenged. He had about a full car length ahead of me, and I thought that was just not right, so I gassed it and he did too. The only differnece was my G35 and I were slowly creeping ahead of him. As I was passing him, I looked over and smiled, but he didn't seem too happy, so I continued ahead of him. He backed off as soon as I completely pulled ahead of him as I hit about 100+mph.
Rightfully so, he then pulled back and resumed his position behind me at the next light.
Can I just say after driving a Honda Civic and Ford Ranger for the last three years, I love my G35.

BTW, what happened to layin low while you break in the car?? LOL. I have 225 miles left before 1200.

Nice to hear-- you should be able to take a stock Stang easily. Buuuut... be gentle on your baby, you know you can beat him, so if you're going to assault your engine in the first couple of hundred miles, do it against a worthy opponent [img]/w3timages/icons/wink.gif[/img]

It was the GT and it was I believe a 1999 or newer. I just broke 1000 miles today, so I was feeling a little more free through the break in. I've always heard it's good to break cars in with fluctuating the rpm, not just keeping below 4000 rpm. I just pushed a little further today.

I just ran a current gen GT as well. Had a similar experience. It was closer in the lower gears but I slowly and steadily pulled away from him. Once I hit 4th though, see ya. I think I had a gearing advantage on him at that speed.

Hi and Welcome aboard ctxca, is your G a 6MT or a 5AT? If it's a 6 MT GTs can match you in the 1/4 mi with a great driver, otherwise no contest.
And like the Man said...watch out for when it says COBRA on the back! ;-)

My G35 is silver with black interior, tinted windows, rear spoiler, sedan, and 5AT.
Good advice on the Cobra. I think I'll stick with the taking on what I know is no match for my G.

Please understand that this is not meant to be a flame...I am genuinely interested in this topic...
Can an auto G35 really hang in the quarter mile with a new GT 5 speed? I would doubt it. Yes, in any given street race, anything is possible, but to say that the GT is no match I think is a little far fetched.
To my knowledge, a well driven GT will go mid 13's in the quarter, maybe lower with good air, powershifiting, and gears. Has anyone gotten an auto G35 out of the 14's?
Just interested in some of the opinions of others that have knowledge of both cars.

I don't know why everyone thinks a "roll" is a race. The only real race is at the track, in the 1/4 mile. I think the roll race became an "official" race when the import scene came to be. We've all heard the tales of people beating sportbikes in a roll, thus claiming they are faster than said sportbike. There are just too many variables in a roll race to say it's a legitimate race. What other driver actually trying? Was he toying with you? Was he in the wrong gear when the race originally started?? When you go to the track, people there are there for one reason: to race. I have owned both. The GT will OWN a G35 5AT at the track. PERIOD. END OF DISCUSSION. A GT 5 speed with no tweaks run's 13.5-13.7 at the track. Toss in a filter and it's a solid 13.6 car...with only a filter. Even the auto Stangs can crack into the 13's. It's is possible for a 6MT to bust a poorly driven auto Stang, but when it's all said and done, the Stang is a faster car at the track. And the only place real races happen, is at the track.

Couldn't agree more. How many 5 speen stangs with minimal mods are in the low 13's or even 12's? Many more than there are G's in the high 13s...
Dont get me wrong, I love my G35. It's a great car. But, I didn't buy it to think that I own the drag strip.

Come on now, drag racing is so boring.
Its way more fun beating mustangs in the turns/canyons.
I kinda like the Cobra, but there are just too many variables which make me NOT like US-built cars like Mustangs. The vague feel with the pedals and wheel is just one aspect. Poopy build quality is the other.
