Low Balled on trade-in appraisal

For the first time ever, I felt pretty low about my car, and I've had it for over 3 yrs now. Was bored Friday afternoon, so I stopped by a Lexus dealership to see if I could find a white or silver pre-owned 2006 GS300. I've been pondering whether to get a one of these or a brand new 2007 G35 when it comes in November. So I got suckered into sitting down and talkin #'s with the guy. I was just being curious of what they could get me. Bottom line, the original appraisal they gave me was $12000!!!! My car is in excellent condition, the only thing is the high mileage. I have 88500 and loved every single mile of it. Kinda hurts when I kbb and put in ur avg 12k/year and there's like a $3g difference. Anyways, just wanted to share the hurt. So what should I end up doin? Pre-owned 2006 GS or 2007 G35??

New-car dealerships always give you less than if you were to sell it yourself or go to a used-car dealership many times. Working at a dealership and working with guys who've worked at Honda, Ford, Nissan, Bentley, Jag, and many others - both high and more average brand dealerships, I can attest to that.

You really can't go by KBB, I have found it's a bit inaccurate. What was the value there, and is that a $3k difference due to high mileage?

What do you expect? This is a business. If you want the convenience of not having to sell the car yourself, expect to be lowballed with a trade in.

Yeah, what do you expect? That dealer has to turn around and sell that car so they will never give you top dollar. If you want that blue book value, you will need to sell it yourself. Also, like in buying a new car, the dealer is not going to throw out the best deal right away. You have to negotiate. If you research car buying tips, you can learn how to get the best deal on the new car and used.

no way! dont buy the GS300!!! 245 hp, and i bet a slightly used one costs more than a brand new 07 G35!

wait for the 07, i bet infiniti will give you a better deal on a trade in.

i know about all that. I was just tryin to say that it's not easy to hear that a g35 can only be worth $12k now. I still think highly of my car, and it's just hard to hear that. When u think of a $12k car, a g35 would not be the first thing u would think of. I guess it's just a reality check for me and my G.

Trading in a car is like buying a new car, you have to haggle. They are going to give you a low ball price and you have haggle for a better deal. You are never going to get anywhere near selling it outright, but the price is negotiable.

Yes i haggled for about 1.5 hours, and they topped off at $15500.

Personally? Look for another G35 sedan for sale on their lot and negotiate the trade in price from there.

I suspect that you'll get much more on a trade for an '07 G-sedan...

Hey your car may look good but people can not see mileage or that you had fun getting to your 88K+ miles I say now you know that you can get 15,500 for it and most likely more when the new G35 comes out just brush it off and keep on driving in style. 15K is probably half of what you paid for your car and it's damn near close to having 100K miles on it.
