Crush Washer for Drain Plug - Which way do they go on?

sorry for the stupid question, but the crush washer that goes on the oil drain plug has a flat side and a sort of rounded side. does anyone know which way it goes on?

flat side facing the oil pan, or flat side facing the drain plug.

thanks in advance for the answer. an infiniti mechanic told me once but i forget now

It has a notch in it that goes in the direction of the threads. The flat side screws down against the head of the bolt, and the rounded side crushes up against the pan.

If you look at the washer, one end will have a larger diameter vs the other end. The end with the larger diameter faces the head of the screw, while the end with the shorter diameter faces the oil pan.

They're using flat copper washers now.

I picked up some filters/washers from my dealer about 2 months ago and they were of the crush variety.
