Head to head with M3

believe me guys , my old 540i sport 6 speed runs circles around my sedan and beat 350z and g35 coupes on a regular basis.
my 540 on its best day does 0-60 in 5.2 seconds stock , with the mods maybe 5.0. any version of any e46 m3 can walk my car from dig or from a roll all the way up to 155 (0-155 left me 12 cars back on my friends m3coupe 6spd)
anything can happen in a street race, but dont for a second believe that 2 equally matched drives would have the same outcome... i would bet large sums of cash on it , straight or twisty dont even remotely compare to an e46 m3.
i dont know much about these g35's , but i know since i've owned it all i want to do is sell it even though nothing is wrong with it .
im not bitter.

The older M3's were more of the fun ones, the E46s are the ones that are overweight.
If you look at the history of this forum. There are a ton of people who hang with M3s. I had the MREV kit also when I ran one.
On a straight road, I've had my *** handed to me on more than one occasion by M3s. I have the X sedan. But, when there's traffic and both cars can only go so fast, I've beaten my share of M3s also. It's more the driver than it is the car.
Hold on a second please! I have a 2005 G35 Sedan 6MT MREV and i raced a 2004 M3 Coupe 6speed, TWICE. The first time, he was about a hood on me but losing ground, the second, we were neck and neck. I was quite impressed as i thought i would lose or at least not be so close. Look, alot has to do with the driver, obviously, but keep in mind that 0.5 secs is like nothing in a street race. His car 0-60 in 5.2 and mine in 5.7. In the end, 1 inch more of wheel or clutch slip at launch makes that 0.5 secs dissapear. There is no question that the M3 is a killer car, but the way things are heating up in the horsepower wars these days, 333hp for an M car just doesnt cut it anymore. I guess thats why BMW is now turbo-charging everything.
Dont get me wrong, they are FANTASTIC cars, but what i think is happeneing is that the others are catching up fast. Still, I would love the 335i!!!!!!!!!!!

where the M3 shines is in the S's it is over all a great road car, but very tricky to drive right. I have instructed guys with M3 before at DE's and it takes alot of work and knowledge to learn the car. where my PIG S4 is more like point and shoot
The G35 is just a great engine and faster than alot of people know!

M3 convertible does about a 14 sec 1/4 mile. Add a mediocre drive to the equation and it is possible.
"Driving the rear wheels through a 6-speed manual gearbox, our tester romped to 60 in 5 seconds flat. And tore through the quarter-mile in 13.5 seconds at a trap speed of 107 miles per hour. Despite giving up 366 pounds to the coupe, the M3 convertible needed just a half-second more to complete both tests".

Good Lord, what am I missing here? Last time I checked, an E46 M3 hardtop is good for 13.4-13.6@104mph and that's in the mags. There are those that have done 13.2-13.3@106mph in these cars stock. Compared to a stock or NA modded G35, the M3 should clearly walk the G35. Most stock 6MT G35s are stuck in the 14.2-14.4s@96-98mph. That's a huge difference. Trey is the only one on this site to break into the sub 13.9s and even so, his modded G35's 13.7s@102mph aren't enough to tangle with a decently driven E46 M3. Playing the game of averages, the E46 M3 is a solid .5 seconds and 4mph faster than a 6MT G35.
As for beating E46 M3s on the road course in a G35, the driver was beaten, not the car. An E46 is a SUPERIOR car. As for it's weight, I'd hardly consider a 3,415lb curb weight as portly seeing that a G35 typically weighs a few pounds more. Seeing that the M3 is spec'd out better for racing duties and packs a bit more power, the M3 is going to win, driver to driver.
Don't be blind to the facts, fellas.
