Head to head with M3
+1, fyi the best recorded 0-60 times on e46 m3's were 4.6 seconds (these cars were broken in with 2k miles on the motors) consistant. i forget what magazine, i'll try to find it.
get one of your best drivers to come to a cca event and hop on the track with a bunch of m3's see if he hangs in the corners. it wont be pretty.

Compared to a stock or NA modded G35, the M3 should clearly walk the G35. Most stock 6MT G35s are stuck in the 14.2-14.4s@96-98mph. That's a huge difference. Trey is the only one on this site to break into the sub 13.9s and even so, his modded G35's 13.7s@102mph aren't enough to tangle with a decently driven E46 M3. Playing the game of averages, the E46 M3 is a solid .5 seconds and 4mph faster than a 6MT G35.
As for beating E46 M3s on the road course in a G35, the driver was beaten, not the car. An E46 is a SUPERIOR car. As for it's weight, I'd hardly consider a 3,415lb curb weight as portly seeing that a G35 typically weighs a few pounds more. Seeing that the M3 is spec'd out better for racing duties and packs a bit more power, the M3 is going to win, driver to driver.
Don't be blind to the facts, fellas.

I believe it. I just beat a Ferrari F430 the other night. It was a convertible im guessing thats why. It was from 30-110 MPH. I had him the whole time. Funny thing is the Ferrari didnt even move. Turns out driver does matter. This case driver was actually dead...and not in the car...and the car was a model....but I still beat him. Heavy convertibles.

The older M3's were more of the fun ones, the E46s are the ones that are overweight.
If you look at the history of this forum. There are a ton of people who hang with M3s. I had the MREV kit also when I ran one.

If u lose about 3-4 cars from 0-100 i dont think thats hanging with the car. We can hang with IS350 because the difference from 0-100 is about a car.
the M3 is 3700 FAT lbs. WOW i thought my S4 was heavy at 3900 +- I thouht it was about 200-300 lbs lighter. I think once the G is broken in i need to get the M3 and my G out for a run!! it has 13k and is a convert!.
On the track a driver equal in the M3 will walk all over my PIG S4. I have been racing for over 10 years and have won many trophy's but the E46 is a great car.

2006 M3 hardtop weight is 3415. Exactly how is that heavy? Since tracking times are so dependant on the driver, it's hardly a great comparsion unless the same driver tracks both back to back.

haha jk.
i've left verts in the dust, picking up a car length by 80-90, and i just drive an auto G... sure it's only street racing but that's my experience

0-60 mph: 5.1 sec
Quarter mile FROM MY RUNS 13.4-13.5 average. gets better and worst depends on conditions.
and for the car and driver racers "the Coupe may score a six-second-flat 0-60 mph time."
and i could only pull a good 14.1 on a quarter.

Those 13.4 are not happening on the street in most cases folks. Pointless to race on the internet. If you've actually raced an m3 convert and have light mods - you may have a chance.
