aftermarket exhaust vs custom exhaust shop exhaust

(limited experience) feel free to flame me.
my vote goes to paying the $$ for an after market kit. Supposidly those kits
injen,HKS, etc to name a few are tested for specific gains. if you go with a custom slapped together its a crap shoot, and quite frankly you may loose power.
additionaly I had the understanding the 304 SS used in the aftermarket exhaust requires a special welder. Usually this welder isnt at a muffler shop. and the skill required to perform the job non-existant.
just my 2 sense

go custom.....as long as you have a really good shop to do it!
I'm not buying into the R&D factor from HKS, etc. It is a muffler that is more or less straight through and bent piping. I bet the only R&D they do if trying to get a nice "tone."
personally, I don't think there is any power to be gained with an aftermarket exhaust on a relatively stock G35. Check alot of the exhaust posts.
I found the biggest exhaust gain to be from test pipes.....but I love my custom exhaust, too!

I had a custom system built for my Dodge Ram. Every time I drive it, I hear folks wondering whose truck that old phart stole! Sounds great, but a little loud (Flowmaster 50s). Cheaper than a store-bought system, and a good shop will make a good system. Not talking about Bubba down at the Exxon station!
