Third Brake light

Ok I know from searching that a lot of you remove them. My question is how do you change the light blub. I know its led...there's just a whole lot of foam padding I would have to rip off to get to it! Help

See if you can find someone with a service manual, it looks like it's a major thing to do, but you can change the bulb. My '04 the 3rd light was only half working and they replaced the unit.

unless they made a drastic change from 04-05, it should be easy. I have an 05. All I have to do is sit in the back seat and pull on the brake light housing. It slides right out.

Bringing this back. My entire brake light is out. I looked for a fuse but didn't see any. It's a 03 Sedan. Are they really leds? That means it's a dealer only item?

Just a reminder...for some reason, if they replace your 3rd brake light, they don't use the same 5 led brake lamp. Mine had 1 defective LED and they replaced it with 2 large LEDs instead. Looks very cheap but so far no one else is complaining and my service rep says that's what infiniti uses as replacement parts. Not sure why but if anyone has any luck getting the right LEDs replaced, let me know.

ughhhh same here, mine went out a few months ago and I had it replaced at Pleasanton Infiniti here in the bay area. They gave me the 2 led light also. I thought it was just me who got the shaft.

If thats what they're doing to everyone, I might just pay the $100 for the 5 led one and just buy it my damn self. Thats a pretty crappy policy though.

bert you get your done under warranty? I'm not THAT concerned about 2 vs 5 as our std led tails are very bright. But I understand how we should get what was in there.

Yea, it was done under warranty. So I felt a little embarrased complaining about it, so I didn't bring it back up (yes i'm a puss). And the 2 leds definitely still get the job done, but they really don't look as "sophisticated" as the 5.

But yea definitely, to continue the rant I mean its not like they stopped using the 5 leds for the newer 05's or 06's. I dunno why they had to use those 2 led lights.

Mine was done under warranty as well. I checked online and found that others were getting the same replacement, so I didn't bother to complain. I did think about sourcing an used one from a junkyard, but for the time being, its doing its job...doesn't look as nice, but it's working.

Yeah those units are crap, mine is out too on an 04. I do not know where the fuse is for this thing and I do believe it's a huge deal getting to it.

Hmm I'm out of the 1st part of my warranty. Does anyone know if it would be still covered? The 3 yr part is done. I think only the powertrain portion is left.

If it's not covered, I might have to go bone yard searching.

I'd like to know how to get at them as well. I just got my 06 g35x and had the OEM spoiler put on. They did not disconnect the 3rd brake light, therefore I have 4 brake lights in total. I don't need the standard 3rd brake light since there is one on the spoiler. I was intending on unplugging this unit permanently. I would be willing to sell it, don't know what a reasonable price is. I just have to figure out how to remove it. I will however be keeping the lense portion. please let me know.
