Unhappy Factory exhaust tips turning GOLD

WTF, my car is a 05'X and its only got like roughly 4500 miles, all i got is a CF z-tube and pop-charger for performance, i know they have nothing to do with it, but it seems the like the silver/chrome finish is turning into a brass like color, why, and will they cover it under warranty, i'm planning on getting the HKS rear very soon, but non the less, i wanna use the warranty if it applies, THANX!!!

If you had a DG sedan that actually might look good? Why don't you call the dealer and check on the warranty status of the exhaust? You're right, your mods wouldn't have caused this to happen. If the dealer says - hey, not our problem, I'm sure some Tarn-x or some sort of metal polisher would clean them right up. It's either oxidation or dirt - both are easily fixed.

dude that is normal on most exhaust tips. Heat discoloration happens all the time. One way to keep them shiny is by using metal polish like the previous poster said. I can't see the dealer nor Infiniti replacing those under warranty. I know I wouldn't. What's next a new paint job? Lighten up it's just cheap tips on there anyway.

that is what stainless steel does! polish your tips once in awhile. It is normal maintenance.

you'll have to do the same on the HKS. I use Mother's all the time and it still looks brand new. BTW, I hated the OEM tips so much I had my muffler shop cut them off and put on some real chrome Borla tips on there.

What did you hate so much about them / what do you like better about the Borla tips?

The OEM are simply pieces of cheap metal bolted on to the exhaust pipe half way. The Borla tips I got are both one piece welded right onto the muffler. It looks 1000x better. I don't even have the OEM muffler on my car, but it had to be done.

The best stuff I have found to use is stainless steel polish for pots and pans. It brings the color back and cleans them right up.
