G35 competitors

So, today my friend pulls up to school in a brand new Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 8. Wow. 271 bhp, 273 lbs.-ft torque, 0-60 in about 5, and 1/4 in about 13.5, and he paid only 32k for a fully equipped one. This thing is a rocket ship, and its still got a preety nice interior and ride. What im wondering is, for this price the car is basically fully loaded and for this price i could get a G with a sunroof, so whats the deal? Besides maybe the 6'' more for the rear passengers what would convince me to take a G over an evo?

Re: G35 competitors

You're comparing apples and oranges. The Evo competes with the Subaru WRX and other turbocharged rally racing oriented vehicles while the G35 sedan is a luxury sports sedan that competes with the BMW 330i and Audi A4. I'm not saying one genre is better than the other, though I have my own personal opinion, the fact is they are just marketed to different folks. Based on your comments, it sounds like you may be a better target customer for the first group.

My last thought is, who the hell buys any of these these cars for kids in school, whether it be high school or college?!? Man, I wish I had parents like that when I was growing up!

It's been said, but: apples to oranges. I just liked the total package and smoothness of the G35 more than the Evo when I was car shopping. If one were concretely better on all levels and cost more, it wouldn't exist.

I agree with that, I had a new car in college, but only because the VA gave me a car allowance, most everyone else had an old POS that was held together with bailing wire!

In regards to, "who buys this kids for highschoolers" well for me, ive been working for the last 2 years, and my dad is splitting the lease in half with me, and its half his car (i get to drive his Volvo 70 convertible when he has the G, so not a bad deal either way), and for my friend that got the Evo...well his dad owns QAD, which is one of the higher grossing software companies...they made about 50 milllion last year, so thats the kind of parents buy these cars for their kids.

Re: G35 competitors

you ask, what would persuade you to buy the G? How about Maturity, luxury and class, plus I'm sure Stillen will soon come out with a supercharger for the sedan, that will cover full warranty, if your really into high performance.

Re: G35 competitors

As for who buys their kids cars like that-- Simple: people who can afford to do so. You work hard, and if you can afford a luxury and make your children's dreams come true, why not?

Now, if the question is why one that powerful? Well, because the kid asks for it My mother had serious issues with my receiving an SHO for my 16th birthday, but my dad said "that's my boy!" The G was my college graduation gift. I must admit, if I can do it for my kids, I will... I'll hopefully have taught them the responsibility and humility to know that they are lucky and should work hard. If they end up as brats, however, they'll drive an '82 Chevy Celebrity until they're out of my house

Thats preety much all i wanted to hear, "luxury and class". Its just been on my mind as it was a big topic at lunch, as to how my G would be more than his Evo, and his is a lot faster, but i just forgot the G is a Luxuray Sports sedan. Thanks guys.

Re: G35 competitors

No one mentioned that the EVO is a racer-boy ride that preys on teens and was released here simply because "The Fast and the Furious" caused the "tuner" market to explode...The G35 isn't the kind of ride every aftermarket company is going to target, whereas the Lancer is...I'll guarantee that several board meetings were held to discuss the Lancer's profitability as far as Mitsubishi dealing with aftermarket manufacturers...I'd personally much rather roll up to a Lancer after completing all of my work and blowing his unsuspecting doors off...

Yeah, the EVO is definately a fast and the furious car, but its incredibly awsome, especially for the price. Also, how would you plan on "blowing his unsuspecting doors off" if the car is reasonable faster?

I said after my work was completed on my ride, most notably the PE twin turbo kit...

Re: G35 competitors

i see, well, in that case the G would not only have a better ride, but it would definately roost any evo unsuspectingly.

Re: G35 competitors

EVO looks like a pretty cool car but for $32K seems like a lot of money for a Lancer with a turbo and AWD, maybe if it was like $26K would seem like a better deal.
