Climate control, Mode button question.

Has anybody ever have a problem when turning the **** to change the temperature on the climate control, the "mode" will change as well? For example, I have the mode set for the front vents only but when I change the temp setting with the ****, it will change the mode to blow air towards your leg/feet. I notice this randomly happens when I first get in the car in the morning. It also randomly does this when if I switch they system from manual to auto. I thought I seen this happen once before when I first purchase the car but I thought it was just me selecting the wrong setting with the mode button.

I didn't get a chance to check the manual but this doesn't sound normal.
Has anybody else had this problem or is this actually some kind of feature?

thanks,
gdo

On my 04' it will do something like that. If the temp is way down (~60) and you go all the way up it will move to the feet only.

Well it sounds like you have an '05 or newer, if you have a **** to change the temp. That aside, not sure about mode changing automatically when changing the temp, but I can comment on the air changing where it blows to.

If you're in AUTO mode, I believe the car has different sensors (high & low) that measure air temperature and will automatically adjust where the heat and/or AC goes depending on the temp readings. Also, I live in MA and some winters it gets quite cold, and whenever the temp is super cold (like 10 degrees Fahrenheit or colder, the air will automatically be shifted to the front windshield defroster, in addition to the feet or face).

jimmyc13,

Thanks. Yes, sorry forgot to mention that it's a 2005. Ok, so it sounds like it will do this in AUTO mode. The only problem I notice is if I decide to switch it back to blow only through the front vents, it will take itself out of AUTO mode and back to manual.

ttrank,

Thanks. This is exaclty what mines does as well. Was this actually a problem? Did you ever have it fixed or did you live with it?

thanks.

I don't have my G yet (pick it up Saturday) however my present car has climate control which automatically directs the airflow based on temperature and function. It assumes heat should get directed towards the feet and A/C from the top vents.

This is exactly how my '05 works. When it is in auto mode, it will switch to my feet if it is putting out heat instead of A/C.

I have never tried it in auto mode. Mine does it in manual mode. The dealer told me that is just how it is. That does not bother me as much as it turning on the A/C when you go to re-circulated air. Sometimes you might be behind a bad smelling truck or driving past some farm land and not want outside air or the A/C. I got the same answer from the dealer on that one too...

It changes the same way in my car. Switchin to a higher temperature (warmer) will make it switch to the feet.

Just as Jbongo noted...I always thought this was a design feature because hot air rises vs. cold air sinks...so eventually the entire cabin will be warm from the rising air. Sometimes its so freaking cold...my face feels like it will fall off from frostbite...but my feet are just fine! go figure.
