Z06 MPG vs. G MPG

My co-worker claimed that his Z06 Covette average 18 MPG. My G Sedan average 18.5 MPG, botht taken from on board meter. We live pretty much the same distace, face the same traffic. He drive pretty aggressively, I am semi-aggressive. What the deal? Isn't V6 suppose to be more effcicient? or Chevy engine design is inheritly more effecient than Nissan?

Cato:
LOL, and as I remember, those 'vettes' got about 18 mpg's too. Go figure......

Gster:
Your buddy's vette will prolly get 18 mpg's on a good day, on the hwy and doing the speed limit. It prolly gets closer to 10 if you add in some 'fun factor'.
How much would your G get on a good day?
I would think closer to 25mpg's.
I think if you got down to brass tacks and did the mileage test on both cars under the same conditions and checked the mileage accurately, that your G would outshine his Z06.
The Z06 is a great supercar, and I'm not belittling it in any way, but in 'real world' mileage (not the EPA rated mileage), yours has to be better all things being equal. JMHO

Re: Z06 MPG vs. G MPG

the new generation small blocks (ls1 and ls6) are VERY efficient and the corvette also doesnt weigh all that much. A C5 can get as high as 30mph on the highway

Re: Z06 MPG vs. G MPG

yup. the z06 does give about 18mpg.
I think mpg was not one of the concerns for the designers of the VQ engine. we just gotta live with it.

Re: Z06 MPG vs. G MPG

There have been a lot of discussions about the G35 gas mileage on the coupe board and how much it varies for different owners. My coupe only gets 16.5 city and I too have made the point that V8's like BMW 540's and Z06's get at least 18.
It is disappointing that the G's V6 gets such low mileage. All I can figure is the engine is really pushed to its limit to get the 260/280 h.p. that the G puts out.

Re: Z06 MPG vs. G MPG

Corvettes enjoy very good fuel economy. Nearly 30mpg is possible on the highway. I think that gearing plays a large part of this, though. With that much power/torque on tap the car can run at very low rpm without lugging.

Re: Z06 MPG vs. G MPG

At 70mph my Z gives me 28-30 mpg. Under the same conditions my G gives me 22-23 mpg(same as the Murano).

Re: Z06 MPG vs. G MPG

I get about 19-20 MPG in my daily commute (90% highway). I traded cars with my brother in law for a week and half. I got just under 18 with his ride. (Both measured the old fashioned way, not with the nav.) The only problem is that his ride is a Lexus LX 470 that weighs 2 1/2 tons and has a drag coefficient of a barn. With a claimed drag of .27, which is among the slickest, the G should get better gas mileage. What's up?

Re: Z06 MPG vs. G MPG

Here's my guess, I think Nissan engineer is running the VQ fuel rich. It's the only explanation. Meaning we should get better MPG if we get the air following. Any thoughts?

Re: Z06 MPG vs. G MPG

If the VQ is running rich, the plugs will have black colored deposits on it. Has anyone taken a look at their plugs or even changed them out?

Re: Z06 MPG vs. G MPG

I've changed my plugs after ~3k miles. the plugs did have very black soot on them. around the threaded part of the collar that faces the cylinder. every plug had the black deposit.

Re: Z06 MPG vs. G MPG

hmm.... is there a way we can tune this? Do I have to go to the dealer and ask them to check air/fuel mix?
