dealer brake quotes

just got two quotes for replacing brake pads/turning rotors on my '05 G. local infiniti dealer wants 290.00 per axle. local nissan dealer wants 189.00 per axle.

any reason not to save the $$ and just have nissan do it? i mean they are using the same parts, aren't they?

I give up on INFINITI dealership. They are over price for all costs. I just take the G back to NISSAN to do all the maintaince work. Save me big $$$$$$.

The $290 per axle quote from Infiniti sounds about right. I paid around $280 for the front axle (replace pads & resurface rotors).

Does Nissan use the same brake pads on the G and Z? If not, does anyone know if the Z's pads dust as much as the G's? I can't stand the dust anymore... every day wipping down my front rims

290 per axle seems completely ridiculous. I don't know anything about being a mechaninc but I have a friend who used to be one. My wife's car (2003 Acura MDX) recently needed brake pads and rotors. Sears wanted over $500 bucks to do the job. I bought the parts at VIP and had my friend do the work. He did all four wheels in three hours with the tools I had in my garage. The parts cost me about $150, and I gave my friend $100 for his trouble. From that point on, I've given any non-warranty work to my friend and saved a bundle.

I just got an 06 6MT G35 sedan last week. I just assumed that I would do the same thing with this car. If the brake pads needed to be replaced etc, I would have my friend do it. I'm assuming that the people on this board know a thing or two about fixing cars, so why would you guys go to the dealer in the first place? Is there something that they can do that you and I can't?

Half day job to replace rotors/brake pads? Man it is like 15-20 minutes a wheel tops if you kind of know what you are doing....

No, he said ours would need brakes soon and that was his price. This is the dealer in San Antonio.

I swapped on OEM pads and Brembo replacement rotors ($50/ea from Tire Rack) in about 45 minutes time, including jacking up the car. Out of pocket cost was about $140.
