Mine is usually pretty accurate once I've driven a few miles. Within the last year, though, it has occasionally got off, up to 10 miles or so, and I need to reset it via instructions I found here. When I do the reset, it immediately shows the correct temperature.

does it really matter how accurate it measures? isn't it just for reference and not to make scientific measurements on. i'm sure mine is not accurate but it does enough. what i would really like would be an interior temperature sensor so i know how hot it is inside the car.

I agree about your exterior comment. Wouldn't the interior temperature pretty much be close to whatever you have your climate control set at? (after of course several minutes of the car running).....

that would be only if you set your climate control on to "auto" all the time. I know some cars offer the interior temperature, i know the older TLs offered this. i guess i'm just curious to know the temperature difference from the outside and inside at times.

Anybody else have a problem like Nickk6 and I have? Where the outside temp gauge reads lower than the real outside temp, as if the gauge was getting stuck at the lower temp?

It seems like a lot of people have the opposite problem. A temp reading higher than the actual outside temp (after the enginge is warmed up and the car has been sitting, but then becoming more accuate upon driving the car).

Mine seems accurate, although after sitting without airflow over the sensor it tends to read too hot, which is what you would expect. After getting moving it gets the right temp again, at least compared to the bank signs, etc.

I just looked at this method-it is amazing what you can do with cars these days (sometimes it is amazing what you HAVE to do with cars these days!). I didn't try it since mine works fine and I'd hate to mess it up, but if mine were not working well, I'd give it a try. Good luck.

According to the reset method you can see the internal temp during the diagnostics, then why the He11 can't we see it any other time? Seems weird to me.

I've had it a few times, which I've posted in other threads. 5-15 degrees.

The reading too warm I blame on parking on asphalt in the summer, A couple miles will normally fix this.

Yes, I have observed this bug also. It seems to happen most often when the temp outside is moderate - around 60-70F. It will eventually correct itself, but often takes a while. The reset procedure referenced in this thread will also correct it. I believe the problem originates with a lag/differential circuit in the control circuit. The purpose of such circuits is to eliminate rapid fluctuations or extreme (false) changes over a short period of time. But when there are software bugs, the lag occurs more noticeably. My $0.00000002.

Thanks Noremac. I'll try the reset procedure next time this happens.
