OEM Sport suspension package?
Re: OEM Sport suspension package?
Gsedan35,
I agree with you. You make a lot of good points as I have also tested both out myself. One thing I think a lot of people have wrong is that the ride is softer in the non-sport theoretically yes but softer does not always mean a smoother ride as you mentioned. In non-sport when you hit ruts or bumps it bounces around to much which in turn makes for a harsher ride in my opinion. The sport is more germanic. The springs look identical on both but according to the guy who installed mine he said they probably use a different mixture of metals to make them stiffer.

I think your painting the same picture of the underdampened aspect of the non sport, just on a different canvas. It is a softer ride, just that its underdampening shows up in some of the ways you describe, making for some untidy behavoir given the right road condition.
BTW, all steels have the same elastisity The only difference between 'stronger' steels is how much they will bend before they permanently deform. So the type of steel used, has not effect on spring rates. Also a tiny fractional differences, (that would be tuff to spot with the naked eye) in the diameter of the wire used to form the coils or in the width of the circle that each lope of the coil forms can make a big difference in the spring rates. Besides we have Infiniti outright telling us that the non sport has softer springs. So we already know for a fact by their own admission that it does. Just a question of "how" much softer. I'm betting that it will be close to the JDM bilstein setup, or something close to it.

I was able to buy a sport tuned suspension from a board member here. I had
it installed by a local shop. I like the STS much better than the non-sport
suspension. It rides very good, but a tad stiffer in the twisties. Along with
my Stillen sway bars, my ride is way superior to the old non-sport ride.

Let me just say that imo, the standard suspension cars feel boring to drive. They feel like an average ho-hum car. The steering at slow and at high speeds is very light (a light tug of the wheel translates into too much unwelcomed side to side jostling). The low and high speed turns have too much body roll--and again the steering is too light.
I still remember the first sport suspension car I test drove(I now have a sport susp. G ) WOW! Steering is very taught and handling is tight with minimal body roll. Feels very stable in high speed and low speed turns. The ride on smooth road is excellent. The ride on so-so roads is good and the ride on ghetto roads is acceptable. Plus, I like the different wheels that come with the sport susp. Everytime I have a standard susp. loaner it reaffirms my opinions on this.
