Answers from Borla about the sedan exhaust
Q: When will it be available to the public and do you have a cost estimate?
A: I cannot officially comment on the availability or pricing of this
exhaust, but I can say that it normally takes about 6 weeks to release.
Q: The dyno shows 203 HP for the stock. The car is rated at 260 HP. Any idea why there is such a difference?
A: The 203HP that was measured is from the wheels. The factory rating of 260HP is directly off the motor (no transmission or rear end power losses, it has also been noted that the factory rating is not always accurate.
Q
oes this exhaust system replace the y-pipe as well making it a true catback exhaust?
A:This exhaust system is a true dual, replacing the factory Y-Pipe.
We found that this configuration was optimal for power output on a stock G35, as well as providing room for improvement if other performance enhancing products are added.
Q: What muffler/silencer system was used?
A: It took four mufflers to get this vehicle to an acceptable level.
These mufflers all use a straight through design to minimize exhaust
restriction.

Re: Answers from Borla about the sedan exhaust
Thanks Howard...I'm really watching this with interest.
Are there any pics of the entire system? I saw the tips on your car but would be great to see what this thing really looks like. Also, I'm assuming that if the y pipe is replaced the factory cats are being replaced...is this a good assumption? If so what type of cat replaced OEM(high flow, name brand, etc)?? Thanks!!

Re: Answers from Borla about the sedan exhaust
no that's not a good assumption. Cat back system means fron teh CATalytics converter and BACK. The cats are staing in place. To replace them would be illegal.
Personally I cant wait to get Stillen exhaust, I can gurantee you now that it will make more power because of the x-pipe design used there.

Re: Answers from Borla about the sedan exhaust
I'm sorry that I don't have any more information than I've already posted.
Unless I can get my car up on a lift, I don't think I can get a picture of the whole thing.
I'm sure that Borla will have a picture of the whole system as they did with the coupe (on the Borla web site) once it is ready for sale.
One of the only things I know for sure is that I love it.

Re: Answers from Borla about the sedan exhaust
wtf! their measurements must be off...or conducted with all the ash in their air during noon time or something. isnt it supposed to be somewhere around 30 percent less hp or somethign like that? or it must have been an automatic. i also cant wait for this to be released. the stillen is going to cost an arm and a leg more...but if u got the money....

Re: Answers from Borla about the sedan exhaust
Assuming an automatic is a 20% loss, that leaves you with 208 at the wheels. The only way to tell, though, would be to have the same car dyno'd before and after the exhaust.

Re: Answers from Borla about the sedan exhaust
a 20% loss should leave you at 216 W.H.P.for the stock car. The Borla equiped car only netted 203 W.H.P. or 244 Crank H.P. possibly the car was below average H.P. to begin with or the Borla system is not as good as stock.
Re: Answers from Borla about the sedan exhaust
What did Borla do for the stock muffler valve, that closes at low RPM's to help increase low-end torque. I'd hate to put on an aftermarket exhaust to see HP in the high end increase, but torque at low RPMs decrease. I emailed Stillen about this for their coupe duel exhaust, and they never replied.
Re: Answers from Borla about the sedan exhaust
260 * 0.8 = 208, and if you have a coupe, 280 * 0.8 = 224. 216 would be right if you started with 270hp, or it would be a 17% loss on a sedan, or a 23% loss on a coupe. All close enough not to make much of a difference, though.

No after market system will have anything like that. Keep in mind that the coupe doesn't have it. The coupe gets a performance muffler and it's low end torque does not suffer. It is possible to gain in the mid range and the high end, without sacrificing your low end very much if at all. Certainly, stay away from 80mm or 3" single pipe systems that are ment for the Z. Those are for FI applications. (Some people might be tempted to get such a system and convert it for sedan use, so thats why I bring it up).

Re: Answers from Borla about the sedan exhaust
216 is more accurate I think since that's exactly what mine was at stock (5AT Sedan) on a 90 degree Houston summer day.

Re: Answers from Borla about the sedan exhaust
Just to help with more numbers, my 2004 6MT w/ non-stock intake and groundking kit, put down 238hpto the wheels this morning. Now, I don't know why i didn't do it, but I didn't reset the ECU before going. So maybe it would have been a little better.
