About to pick up an '03 or '04 G35- advice needed on various models

Hey guys, looking at an '03 or '04 G35. Currently, I drive a 350z (built motor and APS ST). I have a nice '01 civic as my DD, but it's not very comfortable and looking to upgrade for my long commutes. The G will be my "winter car" per se. I'm only looking to spend around 20-22k OTD. Which I think is doable based on some of the various listings I've seen. I've been doing some research and I didn't realize the different packages/models (premium, base, aero, sport, etc) and things you would "assume" would be standard. Glad I started reading up here! Anyone point me to a thread or link that has list the different packages and what is standard and optional? I guess this would explain why I see '03's with similar miles range from 17k-24k! Thanks!

Since you live in Chicago and it will be a winter car I would definitely get the G35x. The all wheel drive will come in handy.

^ I agree, but a g35x is not mandatory for me. I think with some all seasons or blizzaks, I will be fine. Of course, if I find a good deal on a g35x, I'll jump on it... but I'm leaning against it becuase of the price differences. I think the premium package is what I'm looking for: auto on/off headlights,
memory drivers seat, power front seats, auto dim/Homelink mirror, reclining rear seats, BOSE, auto up/down on all windows/moonroof, moonroof, and auto dual zone climate control.

As much as I love the G and everything about it... if you need it only for commuting, this cars' MPG sucks. If I didn't need performance and simply wanted a nice and comfortable car, I wouldn't get the G. I'm just saying this because you already have a 350z and I doubt you'll be modding both cars at once, so if you're looking for a commuter, I'd get something with better gas mileage.. some Lexus ? No clue. Oh man, people are gunna flame me.

^ haha. waiting for the flames! To be honest with ya'll, a midsize car is what I want. It will eventually be needed if I have kids at some points. I know it's a few years away, but I plan on keeping the G for at least 5-7 years. I'm also looking at an 04+ Acura TL, but prices are not as flexible at the G35 and they seem to hold their value better. The G35 just seems like a better buy overall. I also considered the TSX, but it's too small for my tastes. And yes, the G35 sedan will not be modded at all. I'll keep it bone stock.

On second thought I am with DieselX. I would not even get the G35 for a daily driver. Don't get me wrong I love my car for the value, performance, and reliability.....but the squeaks and premium gas are annoying. I would get something like an Acura TSX or and 03 ES300. Just my opinion since you already have a sports car.

gas cost isnt really that big of a deal. If I like the car based on the test drive and extra $15/week on gas won't kill me..... TSX is too small..... I'll look at the ES300... is that too generations back?

looked at some more ES300's/ES330's.... although I was kinda considering them.... I don't know, not 100% sold on the styling, imo... styling= meh. I think I prefer the looks of the G35. The only other car in the G35's class I would consider is the TL. absolutely love the car, wish it wasnt FWD though... but not necessarily a deal breaker. Again, TL's seemed to be priced out of my range. I can probably get a real good deal on a G35 as an Infinity dealership is a sponsor on my local G and Z website/club that I own.

I would try to get sport, the ride is not much more stiff and might keep the commute a bit more fun. Also I forget if it's for both auto & 6sp or just 6sp, but in '04 the G got LSD which is why I waited for an '04 as well as the color.

Wait till the 07's come out and the value of the first gen will drop. I don't think I'll buy another new car after I saw how fast the value of this car dropped so fast.
