Grinding noise in front suspension in 2006 5AT sedan

I've noticed this has been happening for the past week or two. I thought its maybe cuz my car is brand new with only 3200kms on it.

Whenever I park my car, I put on the hand/parking brake. When i drive again, I always release the parking brake and then shift into drive.

A few seconds after i shift into drive and begin to pull away, I hear a 1-2sec grinding noise somewhere towards the front of the engine. I think its something to do with the parking brake not disengaging in time or maybe a brake problem.

I've never driven my car hard except once or twice when i took it up to 240kmph as a test. I don't have any mods except 10hp in tint

Should I take it to the dealer to get it checked out?

note: with my car at 3200kms now, it will take me roughly another 10 days to reach 5000kms when my car is due for another service. I guess I can wait till then since i get free parts till 35000kms.

Is it a "grindy-springy" noise? If it is, it's just the ABS adjusting.

it does kinda sound like a springy sound. and i guess u confirmed it cuz i used your answer to search on google and came up with a bunch of answers - all similar to this:

--------------

What you are probably hearing is the ABS system doing its auto check. It happens once every time you start and drive the car, approx. 5-10 seconds after you begin forward movement. This is why it only seems to happen when the car is "cold," or you have just started it. Usually right around the shift from 1st to 2nd gear.

The sound is a slight, grinding noise, not very audible or noticeable unless you are accelerating slowly(or specifically listening for it, which is what you are always doing after you hear it for the first time).

My '05 Automatic coupe made this noise from the beginning as well. The service tech at the dealership told me about the ABS check, although he thought it was a bad time for the car to run that check, because they get a lot of transmission questions about it.

I bought my car last october, and the sound is always the same. It has not gotten any worse. But, it only happens the very first time you first shift into drive and start moving, after the car has been sitting for a while. After that first noise, you no longer hear it when starting from a stop at a traffic light. If it was the transmission you would likely hear it everytime the car shifted from first to second gear.

Hopefully this helps ease your mind a bit.

----------------------

thanks man

Mine does it its the ABS doing a self test on the brakes. I had it checked out by the dealership and said that is one of the complaints people had on the noisey ABS test.

If you hear the noise from the front then its not the parking brake. The rear brakes are actiavted for the parking brake, not the front. Have you tried leaving and not engaging the parking brake? If you only hear it once say after the car has been sitting, you could be hearing the IACV (idle air control valve) or something similar. I only have 1k miles on mine and the noise is prevalent inside the cabin after the car has been sitting. I would describe it as more of a woosh but we could be talking about different things.

Illmatic is correct

Clinthammer, your search yielding those responses, along w/ illmatic pointing you in the right direction is the cause of the sound.

Always happens when you first engage drive and start rolling and the "spring uncoiling" sound happens around 10MPH. It's consistent...just ABS doing it's checking routine.

It caused me minor concern when I first got my G but I got the same correct input from board members...no cause for concern, it's working properly.

The MT has it in the hand position and the AT has it on the floor.

ABS self-check, most people (including myself) ask about this when they first get their car.

I'm guessing this is a Nissan thing as my gf's Altima does it. Has drove me nuts and I've just now (after nine months) found this thread.
