Exclamation The end is near!

My 2003.5 G sedan is about to run out of warranty coverage. Coverage is up at 100,000 KMS (in Canada) and I’m currently at 92,150 KMS (55,293 miles). Now I’m not positive but, I believe I can buy an extension to the factory warranty for somewhere in the area of $2-2.5K. It would carry the warranty out for another 40 or 50K KMS more at the same coverage level I believe.

The big questions is… given the car (model) and it’s history in general, do you think it is worth spending the money to extend the warranty? $2,500 is a fair bit of cash. Is it likely that something would die in the next 40,000KMS (24,000 miles) which will be A) covered by warranty and/or B) equal to or greater value than the $2,500?

I’m not sure whether to spend the money now or just sit back and wait to see what may happen. Any thoughts on this one guys?

Thanks

$2500 is steep. Search for other reputable warranty services. General Electric used to sell policies direct to consumers for $700 and it saved me many times on a previous GM car. However, I don't think our car is succeptible to major problems. Personally, I would skip it and rest assured that the reason you bought an Infiniti is because it should last well over 200k.

Exactly. If you have maintained it properly and have not abused the car, the drivetrain should last 300K miles. Its all the little stuff that will irritate you and cause you to want a new car by then.

I am in the same boat as you, 03.5 with 94000 km.
I dont think it's worth it, thats too much money to pay for maybe nothing.

I plan on driving my car very hard for the next 3-4 months , to make sure shes good and strong before the warrenty is done.

Thumbs down

Ya, I'm thinking I should take a pass on the warranty extension. I can't see having to spend much more than $2.5K on anything major going. Clutch will probably be the next major thing to go and I wouldn't expect the warranty to cover a friction item like that.

Maybe I'll just start dropping ten dollar bills into a cookie jar...

I am in the same situation with my car. I have ~55,000 miles and was trying to decide a couple weeks ago. I decided not to get it because I have so many mods and they could get out of warranty on almost everything from what I have done.

If you are considering the warranty, read the fine print (which I have not done on this car, or any recently).

Be sure the major parts are covered.

Be sure the deductible per repair is reasonable.

Be sure you have done, and will do, all the required service, since if you can not prove you did, your claim may be denied.

Be sure you can chose what shop does the service (ie., if you are stuck many miles from your dealer).

Then check the fine print again. Remember, they are selling this policy to make money (on the average, not necessarily on your vehicle).

Good luck,
