Rear Strut Tower Bar for G35 Sedan is coming....

I will post pics soon. I am using a 1 3/8" diameter Carbon Fiber Tube for my first prototype, but I will likely be offering it in Aluminum as well.

Oh, yes, my intentions are to make kits and sell them to G35Driver members. My intentions are not to make money but, instead, offer something thatis currently not available for us sedan owners. There is a significant amount of modification that is required to fit a rear strut tower bar on the Sedan, so this may scare away most of the people who just want to "dress up" their ride. For those who are experienced with a Dremel or grinder, this should be no problem.

I am a Mechanical Design engineer who has been playing with cars all my life. I have made custom parts in the past for my Subaru RS and sold them under the name DC Customs (company name). DC is for Derres Catalano (my name), so you can Google me and see my history.

Anyway, about 1-2 weeks away from pics. Stay tuned!!!

So you're the one with that prototype midengine G35.

OK... I have to ask;
On the sedan, what do you hope to gain?
Since there is no fold down rear seat, the rear towers are already braced.
JMO, but seems kind of pointless.

On the coupe the towers appear to be braced as well since the passthrough is really just more of a cut out for the opening. Top, bottom and sides are a continuous metal piece with the trunk pass through cut out and welded between the front of the strut towers.

Well, pull out your rear seat and you will see, it is not braced. As part of this experiment I will be actually measuring how much compression there is in the rear towers. The strut tower bar is also just the beginning. I have made accomodations in the design of the strut tower bar to accomodate a V brace, like the Cusco unit seen below.

I have to agree. I had a rear bar on my 96 Maxima and I didn't notice a thing and that chassis was far more flimsy than the FM chassis.

Sounds good, looking forward to the flex data.

I been thinking of just getting a full cage but the interior is still to pretty to do that I think... Some good bracing might be the answer.

Cool. I hope it works out.

Here's one from my old maxima. I didn't think it would work but I did notice a small change for the better:

I'm definitely interested.

Can you speculate on the amount of modification necessary to the trunk? I don't mean in hours of labor; is this something that will detract from the value of the car when it comes time to trade?

Also, I'm assuming this will be like the stillen rear brace for the coupe in that it intersects the walls of the trunk. If that's the case, how much trunk space will we be losing?

You noticed a little change because you owned one of those super flimsy 3rd gens

My rear strut bar turned out to be a bar for which to strap gear to in my trunk After purchasing the bar (much like the one pictured above), I came to the realization that the roof, glass, unibody rear seat deck, and rear seat unibody panel all tie in the rear structure. It wasn't a big deal because the bar cost $20.

FYI, the G35 actually has 1/2" bars running through pillar rails running from the front pillar (base of the front windshield) all the way to the trunk connecting near the rear shock towers. You can see these bars if you pop off an interior panel off behind the rear seat. These bars serve as roll protection and chassis strength.
