Help on Tires

Guys I need new tires, what should I get?? I'm sticking with the stock 17 rims and I need something cheap. I'm in socal so im thinking of getting summer performance tires because i don't need snow traction. Are the kumos any good? They seem pretty inexpensive!??? Oh yeah and what size should I get without ruining my turning radius and everything else?? I heard 225/50's, what's the stock??

Ok i'm thinking these

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes....odel=ECSTA+SPT

225/50ZR17

anyone have them, and will they fit?

I had a set of those, they are good for the money. I would get a set of 235/45's in whatever tire you get.

Hey Jack - YES YES YES!!!! The Kumho Ecsta SPT is a GREAT tire. I have them on my sedan now and absolutely love them. I run 235/45/18's.

You will not be disappointed with them. I too live in So Cal (Corona).

The SPTs are good but you could also try the Falken ST115s or Toyo Proxes 4s in 245/45/17 both are great but the Falkens edge the Toyos in quiteness. Good Luck.

Wouldn't 245/45/17 be too wide for the stock rim?

just stick with the stock size 215/55/17. Its not going to make that much a difference. Although the optional size you can go with is 235/50/17. Look at the yokohama avid v4's. just put them on my car and i love em. They are not expensive and have a 60k mile warranty. i have an 05x. They seem much better than my good old unbalanceable rsa's. lol

Yokohama Avid V4s are the best buy for the $$$ you will end up spending. I dont agree with the size you are getting.... 225/50/17.... either stick with the OEM size or go 235/50/17.... 225/50/17 will lower your car with ~half inch.

The Kumho's are great. I'm currently 8k miles into my 235's on coupe 18's. Can't beat the price and they are working out very well for me.

I would not recommend sticking with the stock 215 55 17 size tires. Your selection will be very limited and a bit pricey if you want a good tire.

Just my 2cents.

Dave

yeah it's kinda crappy that the stock size have no options what's so ever among all tire manufactures. aren't the 235 too wide?? Oh and what happens if I get those tires and it drops my car a half inch? Do I need to do a realignment for the car?

The Ecsta SPT's will be my next tire for sure
I posted about them earlier..

you should buy 215/50/R17

215 is the width of the OE tire, and you should stick to that in order to ensure proper tread.

50 is the percentage of the width of the tire that represents the sidewall of the tire.

so if you get 225/50 not only will u have a tire that wears unevenly you will have a tire that is not as low profile as it should be! but I dont know how big of a problem it will be going from 215-225

also, the sidewall on the Ecsta SPT has a service description of 95W, whihc is the load rating. (the 95 is, W is the speed rating) that basically is how much weight the sidewall can take to get the reported mileage...(very lehman terms)
Our OE tire has a 93 service description as well.. so make sure you get minimum of 93 service description!

i convinced my best friend to buy them, so far he loves them good look, cheapest for quality, good traction, great off the line, good traction through turns, and great wet traction.

good buy for sure.
