Re: Questions on 2004 G35 sedan
If you live in the USA, your not smart enough to check your own AT Fluid level and condition. If you live in Canada you are!
According to the service manual, cars with serial numbers up to 099999 require dealer service. They have a special Kent-Moor tool and adapter to check the level.
I've heard that cars with serial numbers 300001 and above are said to have an AT dipstick ("Gauge, Oil" in Nissan talk). Does anyone with an USA G35 or 350Z AT have a dipstick from the factory?

The saleswoman did not tell me anything... but she did give me a good deal on the car. If there is no dipstick, does it mean owners will not be able to check transmission oil level ? And basically wait till the warning light comes on and take it to the dealer .....that's pathetic !
There's got to be a opening where you add fluid (or check fluid with the special tool), where is it ?
Thanks

yes there is a transmission dipstick on 04 models
The stick has two holes on the bottom, and a s curve in the stick. Almost one quart is stuck in the tranny when you empty and refill. Should remove pan and screen after 50 to 60 thousand miles. Replace gasket seal on the pan. Some say be exact on how much you fill the transmission. The stick is kind of funky to read, i have the coupe, my gf has the sedan. So i measured the stick in my car, and made sure the same level matched up with hers. There isn't a H and L marking on the stick, but i assume where the curve is in the stick, that's where it should be full. Mechanic at metro infiniti said approximately 4 quarts, but its more like 3 quarts after emptying the pan.

Hey Dave, I was one of the few talking with you towards the end of the Stillen show, and one of the topics was "trans dipstick". Sure enough, when I got home that day, unscrewed the bolt to the trans filler plug and found a stick. I just feel that we should at least be able to check the fluid level even if we can't service it.

All headlight assemblies are ridculously priced, I imagine this car is more due to the size, my G is the first Japanese vehicle I've owned in over 20 years, had an old Datsun PU, everything was higher priced on that due to it being an "import" at the time, hope that still doesn't hold true!

Spottheg,
At least two dipsticks are marked as in the picture above.
I checked my ATF level in "P" at idle. When cold, the level was half way between the two noches. When hot the level was half way in the cross hatched area. The "S" curve in the stick is not used for level measurement. The transmission would be seriously over-full if filled to that point.

ABQ, mine is the same as the bottom one in DaveO's pic.
Prior to today, I always thought it was just a "plug" with no stick in it. The dealer told me there was no stick and i believed it. Finally, I unbolted it and pulled it out... and it's a real transmission dipstick.
