2007 Test drive

Test drove the G35 with sport/auto on Sat Morning. The temp outside was around 54 here on NOVA. The car had 70 miles on it.
Let me start my saying this car is a marked improvement over my 2006 sport.
-Interior:One simple word, fantastic, the fit and finish is head and shoulders over the 2006 and previous years models. There is a feel of quality all around that in al frankness was missing in the previous models. Gone are the gaps connecting the dash to the A pillar., the gauges are very sporty indeed. I believe they did a tremendous job in taking the fight to the competition while mainatining the infiniti flavor.
The difference between the new G and the E90 if there is any in this respect is neglible at best. I, particularly liked it very much.
Exterior:
I endorsed and applaud evolution in a car of this nature. you wouldnt wat to alienate a hard earned car enthusiats following. I believe they succeded. Hansome and aggressive design combined to give the new G a distinctive presence, You will not confuse rthis car for anything other then a G.
- Drive: Our 2006 and previous years G are very sporty in thei own right. I didnt notice a marked improvement in acceleration or stoping prowes. However the refinament with wich this car goes about it business is no question a couple of notches above our G.
Bumps and road irregularities are much better control/absorved in the new car, but that tendency of the rear end to come alive and overreact is still there.
The new tranny maybe a bit faster then ours, and playing with the paddles is always a plus.
Two things, the interior, seem to me to be a tad smaller than our cars, may be an optical trick, dont know.
2nd the seats, to die for!! adjustability everywhere.

My thoughs are that this is definitely a superior car all around to the previous model in most aspects. Me, in particular will hold for the 2008.5 model and see what it brings.

GREAT CAR!!

I'll let exmbguy tell his opinion since he's the OP. However, I test drove the sport AT a couple of weeks ago and I don't remember the paddles feeling flimsy. In fact the thought they were pretty solid and clicked assertively on both upshifts and downshifts.

Good review. I'm glad the new G didn't disappoint!

I haven't driven the 07 G35, but I did sit in a Sport a couple of days ago. The paddles felt rock solid. They are metal, btw.

After sitting in that car and then getting in my 03 brought a tear to my eye. The difference in the interior is like comparing a Dodge interior to a Lexus interior. We're talking orders of magnitude. The Sport was listed at $36,500. It appeared to have most everything, but navigation. My 03 is basically loaded minus navigation and my 03 stickered for $34,600. It's amazing to think that 5 years later, the MSRP only went up $1,900 and the car is outfitted with a ton more standard equipment and power. I'm terribly jealous.

Come to Kansas City. My dealership has 9 G35s of various features. No 6MTs though. $1,000 off MSRP is no problem either. Here in Kansas City, people still haven't accepted owning a RWD car because they fear snow driving. Acura TLs out sell the G35 by a large margin here.

test drove one several weeks ago, could not fish tail it....yes, vdc was off. both salesguy and i tried it.... my 05 with Msport 19's could fish tail off the line with vdc off....

07 exhaust is way quiter or less noticable than 05/06....

salesguy gave misinformation about brake rotors being 16 inches... i said yeah right, better check your specs again... not even vipers, lambos, vettes, or ferrari's have anything larger than 15 inch rotors... plus how does a 17inch rim fit a 16 inch rotors.... go do your homework buddy...

anyway i enjoyed the test drive though. got big complements on my 05 too.

GREAT CAR!!
Are you saying in the next 2 yrs, they'll be redesigning it? Where did you hear this? I can't imagine it'll be a new makeover, but are you saying minor modifications? Just curious......

Thanks

No major redesign or anything like that. But I believe they will come up with a 6 speed auto tranny for better gas mileage and power usuability. Maybe even some along the lines of a DSG. PLus, if any kinks show, most likey will be rectified by them..
Its a solid car all around. From my test drive, no complains whatsoever.

Speaking of the Acura TL, they outsell the G35 by a huge margin here in Vancouver Canada. I even know 3 ppl that bought a TL in the past 8 months. However, I am sure the new 07 G35 will give the TL a really good run for the $$$.

I have an 07 G35x on order. Test drove one here in the ice and snow. It handled beautifully. If snow and ice are an issue get the all wheel drive model. We currently have an 02 TL and always thought we would get another one until we drove the new G. It wasn't even close in my opinion. Acura is going to start losing a bunch of sales if they don't come out with an all wheel drive TL model soon.

Took delivery of my '07x w/ prem. yesterday. In a word: Sweet. Vastly improved interior with good ergonmics and good lighting. I didn't get nav but still get a very usefull screen to navigate audio and climate controls- how nice to be able to navigate folders on an mp3 disc! The external differences are relatively minor in any specific area but for me add up to a much better looking car. I found the ride to be moderately improved and the throttle control at the low end to be better- less jerking off the line in city traffic. The car is just fantastic.

I couldn't buy a FWD car and consider it a sports sedan, and with my driveway (and being in the NE) I can't do RWD, so I needed AWD. So far, the new X is basically a home run IMO.
