Unpainted lowers are easier for cleaning, but then again, my car is black, so the color doesn't clash as bad. The only doggy door on my car is the beer ditch hatch in the back seat!

I like my doggy door just fine, but if there was a cheap readily available 03.5+ trunk in DP I would probably go for it, of course then you need an interior trunk release button or you can just go off the KEYFOB.
I went Aero front bumper and painted my lowers, that was a much more pressing issue for me.
The doggy door doesn't look unpleasing to me, the only thing that bothers me about it is it dates the car. Definitely not enough motivation to put a lot of time and money into changing it.
