Doggy Door

Hey guys i have a 2003 g35 sedan and i love it..the only thing that annoys me is that UGLY doggy door....ive been calling around junk yards...i can only find them for 500-600...so i was thinking of going the bodyshop route...and having the handle and the "infiniti" molded over..has anyone done this?..and how much do you think a job like this would cost?....thanks for your help rolleyes:

I would bet more than $500-600. Vodka paid $500 to fill the holes from the Mt Fugi on his car with a re-paint.

you can take off the doggy door and have them fill and repaint that piece.

^he's already knows that. He is wondering the cost to have that done.

I had my rear bumper re-sprayed for $300. I would think it would definately cost you more than $500

to fill and repaint that little plastic piece? or removing the plastic and filling the cavity. i think the former is probably easier and cheaper.

Man, I don't know why that annoys you, to me that's a unique thing about the first G35, I think it looks good, just my .02.

ABQ_G35...im loooking for more of a clean look...all i really want is the Mt Fuji emblem...the infiniti underneath it really takes away from it...

if anyone feels like ABQ_g35..who owns a sedan with the second generation trunk lid and feels they want the unique first one...PM me...maybe we can work something out

Idea:
1. Buy junkyard non-doggydoor trunklid of same color as your car, install.
2. Develop your bodywork skills by practicing on your doggy trunklid. Take your time, do it several times if you have to.
3. Once you get it perfect, have it sprayed the right color and install.
4. Sell the junkyard non-doggy trunklid to a fellow g35driver.com member who also hates their doggy trunklid.

You save some money, develop your bodywork skills, and get a non-doggydoor trunklid in the process.

Back in April of 2002 when the G35 sedan first arrived at the dealerships. I walked up to my 5 month preordered loaded BS sedan and felt the doggy door - when I felt the plastic handlebar I promptly walked away from the car. I then sent a series of frantic e-mails to Inifniti HQ explaiing how the doggy door is the dumbest thing on the whole car and I wouldn't buy one until they get rid of it.

6 months later they removed the doggy door, and I bought a coupe instead.
