Better Antenna?

Does anyone have any ideas/pictures of better antenna's for the G35 sedan? I have found that some of my favorite radio stations here in Phoenix are tough to pick up with the stock antenna-in-glass setup. This could be due to the mountains and such, but I didn't really have a problem with my jeep wrangler. LOL.

I've been considering the XM radio, but I don't like how those antennas look at all. I asked the Infiniti dealer if he could paint the XM antenna pod-thing to match the color of my car and he said that the paint wouldn't "stick" because of the texture of the pod. I thought I'd ask you guys for advice....you are the REAL experts.

Re: Better Antenna?

Some thoughts:

A) If you don't have the XM box, buy it from Grubbsinfiniti.com, NOT from your dealer. Odds are, they'll ask for about $350-400, and you can get it from Grubbs for $299.

B) If you don't have tint, or have ceramic tint, you can install the XM antenna on the rear parcel shelf, where the child safety-seat anchor point is. Unobtrustive.

C) If you DO have metallic tint, you can get some micro antennas from xmfan.com. Some are very low profile, as well.

D) If you don't feel comfortably doing the installation yourself, check with your dealership to see how much it will cost. They will quote you an unreasonably high number, usually. Then go to Circuit City or something comparably (It's hard to screw up this install, so CC's okay in this case) and get a quote. Even if someone else installs it, Infiniti still has to warranty it, so don't let them try to bully you into believing otherwise.

E) When I was driving through the hills of Kentucky, I noticed that my antenna wasn't stellar, but otherwise has much better reception than most. Dang mountains.

Good luck!

Re: Better Antenna?

That’s interesting, I’m here in the East Valley and I don’t have any problem picking up stations. What area of the Valley are you in?

I have had zero problems with mine here in Albuquerque, with the mountains and all, true, most of the transmitters are on the mountain though!

Re: Better Antenna?

Phdvamp, I am in the north valley area....Happy Valley Rd & 35th ave area.....92.7 Dance/Techno Radio is the station i'm having the most problems with. Its my favorite station.

Regarding the other suggestions from Geo, Thanks for all the info. My G is XM ready (premium pkg). I will check into some of your suggestions, and see what the dealership tells me.
