smoked anodized... pics suck, looks better in person… Originally the project was black chrome – long story (posted out here somewhere) that didn’t work out and this color was the best choice to tie in with some other stuff I did.

OCG, that looks sweet, who did it and how much? If I may ask.

I been searching for some sort of chrome stain for that hyper black look, any one know if something like that exists?

Alliance Auto Collision in Costa Mesa... referred by Sammy at Stillen (they send some of their work there). I forget the total cost... a few hundred – they won’t do it again, great place and they guys that work there are real cool but the owner told me flat out he wouldn’t’ do it again... it was a huge ordeal! Originally they were going to just take off all the trim and door handles so I could powder coat the same color as wheels and grille, when the parts were off I realized there is all kinds of molded plastic behind the aluminum so it can't go in the over for powder coat baking... so then I tried and tried and tried to find a way to paint to get a true black chrome look like the emblems in the pics attached... the only way to do that is to spray with clear coat that has a tinge of black mixed - I saw some pieces and it just didn’t look right so I looked for a regular paint color that I could tolerate and ended up with smoked anodized... trial and error - I like the fact that no one else has a car like mine though.

Wow, quite a compliment thanks! Are you referring to the most recent Stillen meet (May '06) or the one previous one (June '05)? The car was a bit different in '05... It's basically the same now as it was at the last Stillen... I do have a few things lined up though.

Hope to see you at some of the upcoming events! Are you going to Team Transports Toys for Tots car show?

Honestly, I don’t think I'd do it over again... it really is a pain in the @ss... which is why Alliance won’t do it again - the car sat for like a week while I was searching and figuring out what to do... plus it wasn’t a priority for them... If it would have worked out as planned, them simply taking everything off, keeping the car 1-2 days while I get it powder coated then they put back on it would have been peachy! But it was a phucking debacle.

I looked into vinyl laminates... there is a place in H.B that I spoke with (I forget the name) - but they didn’t have the color I wanted and I wasn’t sure how it would turn out... I have heard the BMW guys have done that to darken/black out their trim.

Maybe Bat (bluebatmoble) will start selling a kit! That would be a hit (IMO). I really wanted to have the trim done just like the black-chrome emblems, but the guy I use for emblems said his guy wouldn't do it. Which sucks because the emblem is plastic, so whatever process they use to black-chrome the emblems would work on the trim.

Anyway - let us know if you back yours out... Good luck.
