sirius issue

So Ive had the sirius in my g35 sedan since I got the car. And now for some reason I only get a signal in the downtown chicago area... When Im out of the city say 25 miles for work...the sirius just cuts in and out or dies completly and it says its searching for a signal.

Any one have any ideas on why before I call sirius and then go to the dealer?
I'm hoping its the attenna so I get rid of that nasty puck one and get the shark fin

Sounds like the terrestrial part is receiving but the satellite part is not. That would explain it working in a major city but not elsewhere. It may be the antenna or, if it works like an aftermarket XM unit, it may need to be retuned for best satellite reception.

I did a self install about a month ago and I drive all around the far western (north and south) suburbs. The only time I ever lose a signal is when I'm under something for longer than 15 seconds or so. Otherwise everything is fine. I would bring it back to the installer and have them check the antenna.

BTW - I have Sirius to.

I just got sirius in my 05 a week or so ago and haven't had any problems yet. in my previous car, i had an aftermarket sirius receiver that every once in a while I had to take off the antenna connector to the adjust the contacts that grounded the antenna. When I started getting a bad signal, i did this and it would improve the signal greatly - it would even work in my garage. I'm not sure if the connector on the factory sat receiver has the same type of connector or not from the antenna, but its worth looking into.....

not sure. I suspect it would be grounded by the ground connection from the power supply...
