If I wanted to change the bulbs to white, so you know what the bulb specifications are?

From my understanding, it doesn't matter what color the lens itself is. I'm not sure if it's legal for the emitted light to be white or not, but I wouldn't mind an amber bulb. However, I'm thinking the catch is that the front side marker is supposed to reflect amber/yellow. I searched through the CA DMV website's rules for a bit, but couldn't find the definitive answer.

SAE is the Society of Automotive Engineers. Same group that approves motor oil specs, among other things. Lights that pass federal regulations generally have the letters SAE and/or DOT molded into the lens.

Hmm.. so the bulb is still yellow and only the casing is clear? If that's the case then I guess I'll need to get white bulbs to make it completely clear!

 

the bulb that's currently in our side markers is clear, i believe.. the clear corners probably just show the amber color for show and to stay "legal".. if anything, you'll have to purchase the amber bulbs to get that exact look.. if you want it totally clear, then you probably don't have to purchase new bulbs..

What you talkin' bout Willis? I ain't got no bulbs in my factory side markers. When I activate my turn signals, the side markers don't flash or even come on. Same goes with the hazzards too. Were these not activated or turned on at the factory?? Is this a special setup for Canadian G's? I was wondering about the purpose for the amber side markers. Is this just a refective strip? Sure would be nice to see them flash. What would it take to add bulbs to the side markers?

For those of you in California, 25106(b) Lamps installed within 24 inches of rear shall be red; all other locations amber. 25106 CVC also states the lamp may not exceed four standard candlepower.

 

mbarrad: the side marker lights only come on with the parking lights from the factory. I think CadillacCarl rewired his to blink.

ghom923: Find anything in the CVC about reflective colors for side markers? Do the front side markers have to reflect amber, as well? I can't seem to find the answer, one way or the other.

24609 CVC: Any vehicle maybe equipped with white or amber reflectors upon the front of the vehicle, but they shall be mounted not lower than 15 inches nor higher than 60 inches.
