91 octane chevron techron only... or shell 91 will do if there are no chevrons in sight for miles....

off topic, if only my uncle had his plane at the nearby airfield.... i'd be getting the 100plus octane fuel available for gas powered cessnas...
i was at an airfield waiting to fly a cessna and in rolls a highly modded 240z... he pumps the 101 octane and speeds off...that thing was loud, he's lucky it was minnesota (jesse "the body" ventura removed smog requirements)...

might take the g out tonight to fill up for the trip this weekend...

OK so I am seem to bethe acception here! 4k on my 06 x, I have had it just over a month. In consideration of cost per mile I ran a couple tanks of premium(normally run regular) and crazy enough got slightly less MPG. If I had gotten 2-3 more MPG with premium I would definetly go that way. 99% of my driving is with the cruise on @ 80-85 MPH. I will drop a bottle of Techron in the car every once in a while to reduce build up. I will run the same test again in a couple of months when I hit 10k and swap over to synthetic oil.

That's odd. My mom saw a huge increase in mileage going from 87 to 91. er car as about 4k more miles than yours so that might make a bit of a difference but both engines are still being broken in. I highly recommend you run Premium if not for the mileage for the proper power output.

This just doesn't apply to buying an Infiniti. It applies to getting a BMW, Audi, MB, Lincoln, and yes even some VWs. If it says "Premium Recommended" you should be running premium. Saving the couple cents at the pump isn't worth it when it comes time to replace an engine part because you were running the wrong grade of gas.

It says "recommended", not "required".

I used to use 87 octane and then considered switching over, so I did a test to see if I got better mileage using 93 vs. 87, and sure enough, I did....and in the end, it was pretty much a "wash", so I've stayed at 93 octane (Shell V-Power).

I have done the similar test in the past(other vehicles) and cost analysis said it was the same cost per mile either way you purchased(prem or reg.) like I said I will test my car again in the next month and watch for a difference. As for Premium required, for coupes that is true, for sedan it is recommended. Also interestingly enough, in the northeast there has been a wider gap in pricing from premium to regular(30-40 cents) since Katrina (probably Bush's fault, joking!!!)

Even if you don't get better milage, or it doesn't say "required", if nothing else your fuel system's innards, injectors, etc will be so much cleaner after time. Why waste time with crappy, dirty gas?

300K miles on my 00 Subaru never a fuel related issue and that car would not have known what to do with premium!! Just an occasional bottle of techron!
