Loud Wind & road noise?

Re: Loud Wind & road noise?
I'm reading over this thread thinking I must be nuts! My G is the quietest car I've ever been in! 90 MPH feels like 40 MPH. In fact, that's one of the reasons I love the car so much.
Now, I did get a loaner G a couple weeks back that was awfully loud and felt like 90 MPH at 60 MPH. Besides the fact that it was a base 2003 with no options and mine is a 2003.5 fully loaded, the loaner had the Goodyear tires, and mine has the Turanzas... HUGE difference.

Re: Loud Wind & road noise?
Most of the noise in your car comes from the floorboard and the headliner area.
Glass is transparent to sound, so you can't do much there. Your window seals seem to work well, so the best place to start soundproofing a G35 is with a 1/64" lead mat under the carpeting and above the headliner. For the door panels, you could use a generic dynamat material.
Lexus uses this "technology" extensively. That's why their cars are so quiet. This should improve your experience, but keep in mind that you could be adding as much as 50lbs to your car.

You're right its the spoil brad problem. I get use to that super quietness on those ultra luxury car and comparing them with car from a totally different class and purpose. But I still love my G cause its my dream of Skyline and now that I got use to it, its starting to quiet down. I guess I starting to tone-out of those noise and listen to the engine/exhaust notes as music to my ears.

Re: Loud Wind & road noise?
It sounds like there is a fair amount of variability in either our expectations or our cars. I am half tempted to buy a sound meter to measure the sound level while driving. I notice that the car noise level (or my tolerance) seems to change as well.. some days its quieter than other days. I have not found a pattern though.
Any thoughts on next steps? Anyone want to split the cost of a sound meter?

Re: Loud Wind & road noise?
My G is usually quiet I haven't really noticed any wind/road noise in the 2 months (6K miles) so far. Come to think of it, I have noticed a huge noise increase when I have my 2 sons in the back.
I don't know if I want to invest in a sound meter. Perhaps a roll of duct tape (for my boys) would be a better investment.

Re: Loud Wind & road noise?
Maybe it's my RSA's but my G is loud, and has gotten even more so over time (22K miles on those RSA's). It's so loud in fact that my wife complains everytime I talk to her on my cell while in the car. It is far louder than the TL I traded as well the Altima I had before the TL. Although there is some wind noise, comparable to the Alti, most of the ruckus is from the tires.

Chinee,
My 93 Acura Legend 2 door was fairly quiet. I have noticed at times the G was a little noisier. I figured it was the sportiness, plus I am running Goodyears. All in all though, I think the car is still a great car. If I can't stand the noise, I enjoy the 200 watt stereo!

Re: Loud Wind & road noise?
I traced the wind noise on my sedan to loose back windows on the passenger side.
Both the electric window, and fixed window were loose in the track/mouldings.
If I center the windows in the moulding, it's much quieter, almost silent.
Otherwise, it sounds as if the window is cracked open a bit.

Re: Loud Wind & road noise?
Got my car back and I think bulk of the noise is just tire noise with the Eagles. And that varies a lot with the road surface and even on the same road, with the condition -- i.e. washed dry surface after rain etc.
Further quieting would need either a change of tires.. or perhaps spraying the wheel wells with some sound absorbent material. Any thoughts?

Re: Loud Wind & road noise?
I think you will always get some wind noise from the windshield! I had my G in for something last week and they gave me an I35 to drive, and it sounded the same as my G as far as that goes! Again, my last car was a convertible, so my G is super quiet compared to that!
