AT shifter locked up

I recently let a friend drive my wife's G. When he stopped the car and attempted to shift it into Park, the shifter moved over to the Manual mode area and remained locked there. I could not get it back into the Auto mode area and back into P, meaning that I couldn't even get the key out of the ignition. I had to have the car towed to a local Infiniti dealer, who was able to fix the problem pretty quickly. They told me that they had seen this problem before. Has anyone else had this experience?

I've not heard of that b4. That's a strange one. So what did the dealership do to fix it? I wonder if the fix had anything to do with the lock release next to the shifter.

Maybe that's why they could fix it so quick, maybe that switch was stuck!

Re: AT shifter locked up

No, it didn't have anything to do with the shift lock release, although I wondered about that, too. The service person at the dealership that did the fix said that they had to take the shifter assembly apart and pull up an internal sleeve to resolve the problem. I'm not exactly sure what he was referring to, as I haven't seen the inside of the assembly. I had to have it towed from the hotel where I was staying to the dealership in San Diego. When I called them the next morning, they'd already fixed it, so I just went over and picked it up. Seemed like it was a pretty easy fix, and they did it under warranty. I have to admit that Infiniti Roadside Assistance really made it easy on me! Anyway, now that I'm home (Bay Area, CA), I'm going to take it to my local dealership and talk to them about it. The San Diego dealership made it seem as if they'd seen this problem on the AT coupes and FX as well as the AT sedan. That's why I wondered if anyone else had experienced this. Makes me a little afraid to put it in Manual mode from a stop.
