Punctured Fuel Tank!!!

Hi all.

Been a while since I've been here. Thought I would give the board a try to see if this has happened to anyone yet. Coming home from work on 12/22/2006 I must have run over something in the road as I heard a loud noise from under the car and the car bumped a litte. Not a real jerk but I could feel it. The noise of whatever I hit however was just plain scary. Anyway, I pulled off to a side street thinking I may have a flat. Checked the tires and all was OK. Got back in the car and the smell of gas flooded the cabin and I quickly opened my window and tossed my smoke out. Pulled into a strip mall about 1/4 mi down the road with lots of bright lights and I walk around to the passenger's side adn gas is pouring out of my car underneath the rear passenger door. Whatever I hit punctured my fuel tank!

Got a tow to Infiniti of Lake County and I got a loaner for Christmas weekend (Thanks Mike Fisher!!!) I called the service manager there today and I get a quote for $1,317.00 and it's not covered under my extended warranty. I have 72,000 mi on the car. Made some calls and insurance would cover it but I have a 500.00 deduct and I would take the hit. What to do???

Anyone ever have a fuel tank get punctured? What about a law suit for the road hazard? Can I sue the state who owns the road I was driving on? Would you claim it on insurance or just go out of pocket for this.

Advise please, advise!!!

Thanks!

Insurance. My friend punctured his fuel tank but not in the G, Insurance covers what happens to the car and you won't take that bad of a hit they will pay for some of itjust pay the other 500.00 and call it a day.

I say go with insurance right now. If you remember where you were when the puncture happened then go back to the location and see if you can find the road hazard. If you can locate and identify the hazard take some pictures and make a claim against the city or county that maintains the road. Just my $.02. Good Luck

+1 That's some solid advice right there. In the meantime, go through your insurance company and get it fixed. If you're successful in your claim against the town/city/state, you'll be reimbursed for the work done.

Man that sucks. I agree with Floyds Racing and would get one online and either install it yourself of have someone put it on for way less than $1,300.

Sorry about your trouble. A law suit os probably a waste of time and energy. You would have to find the thing that did it, which is not likely part of theroad, but something left by another motorist. Even if it is the road, in some locales, like NYC, the city is not responsible unless someone has reported the pothole, or whatever, to the appropriate city agency before you have damage from it. I'm not a lawyer, and feel free to try to sue whatever agency is in charge of the road, but it isunlikely a lawyer will want to spend time on a low-yield suit, and it is probably pretty tough for you to do it alone. Ask the insurance company, because if they pay for it they have an interest in recovering the money. Good luck.

Just pay the 500 deductible it shouldn't affect your credit rates or standing it's a comprehensive claim, no liability.
