THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU

If I ever, EVER b*tch about replacing brakes in this car, please slap me. I just avoided hanging a 6-point buck on my wall (sans innards) because of 'em. 50mph-0 in what seemed like 10 feet on a wet road. The deer literally flew out between two bushes on the side of the road and I stomped on the brakes-- It jumped into the road and screeched to a halt RIGHT in my lane, and I stopped probably a foot from it.

*wiping sweat from forehead* Phew...

Re: THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU

I couple years back, I topped a rural Texas hill at 70-mph, only to have 3 Texas Longhorns seemingly pop right out of the road about 30-40 yards in front of me. I mashed the brake pedal, and ground to a halt about 8' away from the nearest one, which only stood there and looked at me. I had no idea they were that tall until I nearly knocked the legs out from under all three of 'em. Close call...

geobau, I have no doubt these brakes are the best for stopping power I've ever had, so maybe the "short life" has one good point! Just hope the car behind can stop as fast!

Oh, this is like time #43012. In Indiana, it's just a fact of life. Usually I stop a good 10 feet away or so, but this time the deer was rather bold. I HATE that. Makes me want to start hunting...

Re: THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU

I saw this device that goes on the front bumper, think it imits a high frequency that we cannot hear but the deer can and move away.

Anyone know if they work?

Re: THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU

There was some Dateline thing on them a while ago that said they actually cause more accidents. If a deer is grazing on the side of the road, he may go nuts and run into the road. The deer doesn't know that the sound means a car coming-- the only way of learning that immediately takes it out of the gene pool. We were going to get them til we saw that special. Doh.

They're called deer whistles. There's some debate about whether they work or not. Here in the 'Great White North' lots have them on their cars as they're quite inexpensive.

Re: THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU

yeah, that is the whole reason I am in a G now. I like to track my cars and drive em hard. I had a near miss with an Arizona elk (picture a deer x10) and went off the road in my last car. 6000 in damage and i was lucky: I missed the elk.

Never could trust that car again.

Re: THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU

Merlin, Those are called Deer Whistles and they're very popular up here in the Tundra. I've talked to many who have them mounted and they swear by them.

As much as we crab about these dusty PITA brakes, they are there for you when you need 'em most. (Thanks you Nissan)
ABQ_G35 is right tho, someone bringing up the rear might not be so lucky.EEEEEEEEK
