1/2 MD Spacer Reviews.....

I have been testing this mod since 12-29-2006 I will have an up to date pull by pull COMPLETE TEST ....

Anyways here ya go....

http://my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=240192

Ok Ladies and Gentlemen....

Here are the preliminaries…

On the 29th I took Her to the Dyno to test the ˝ inch spacer….. I just wanted to see the safety factor and the power as it is…..

Straped the car down and did 3 pulls…. All 3 the A/F was RIDICULOUS…. Why ? ….

Well because there was a boosted car ahead of me and he was tuning it pig rich…… clogged the filter….. So I went back on the 2nd ( last night ) to re-check… yet it was a 75 mile drive from Homestead to the dyno and I was somewhat in a hurry to find out what the real deal is…. So I drove and avg of 90mph and some stop n go traffic….. We checked temp with a laser reading measurement tool and observed some spots of the plenum @ 135 degree’s and most of it in the excess of 180…… It was HEATSOAKED….

No time to cool off and did 3 pulls…. I never took it to redline because I was in a hurry….. I just wanted to re-test to check A/F Ratio….

On the 6th I will re-test yet with the car at NORMAL operating temps….

I will do 3 pulls with the Spacer removed and the car @ stock configuration

(Z-Tube and K&N Drop in Filter)

Re-Install the M/D Spacer and 3 pulls

(Z-Tube, K&N, ˝ Spacer)

Yet for the meantime here are a few dyno pulls:

As you can see the A/F was WAYYY OFF yet the power curve stayed the same = faulty reading….

One observation I noted when I 1st dyno’d the car each run the power will diminish substantially due to heat soak…. So adding the ISO-Thermal Spacer Kit actually made a difference

On the stock config my pulls where like so:

1. 226
2. 224
3. 220
4. 218

With the Spacer the car stayed the SAME

Last night with the plenum @ 135 -180+ degree's

1. 224
2. 224
3. 223
4. 224

So the M/D product held its power consistently pull after pull….

Yet the HP ratings dropped because it was just soo damn hot…..

Also another observation I noticed the dyno last night made more power SOONER yet since the car is too hot it just drops down instead of making more up top…..

I will re-post when I re-dyno the car ……

Hope this helps some people out

This the the WTF A/F Ratio....

On this Chart you can see the 3 power bands including last nights pull
You can see the a/f is now corrected yet since the car is soo hot the power is dieing rapidly.... (excessive heat soak) also i didnt redline the car on this run..... i just wanted to see where the fuel was at... if i had a wideband i woulda done that this night....

RPM ( WTF A/F Ratio....)

Remember all this was done with A/F in mind not trying to let the car cool down for power or nothing, that will be done on the weekend, doing it with out variables involved...

I will keep you guys/gals posted

FYI...... The product did make the advertised 10whp gain.... That gain was proved on 12-29-2006.... Just the dyno was faulty in regards to the A/F.....

I knew when I installed that it was worth doing.......with my Stillen CAI and
Magnaflow cat-back system these all work togeather for better performance!
And one hell of a sound especially from 2500 rpm and up.......crazy!

Interesting about the a/f , I swear that I am getting much better mpg since installing the spacer, too damn lazy to do the math though, Hope it is not running too lean.

I'ma about pick one of these up soon and was wondering what size spacer to get? I would assume like AltimanGxe that the 1/2" will give some more top end power right?

5/16" if you want to keep your factory engine cover. I don't think the cover will fit without rubbing against the hood on the 1/2". Go here for dynos.

Their site says that with a 1/2" spacer, the sedan's cover will still fit. But you said something about rubbing? Is that an issue, and also the dynos are for a 350z. I know it's the same engine but our stock dyno numbers aren't usually that high to begin with are they?

I will report my findings as soon as I get out of the dyno the 6th... (Sat)

According to my various conversations with Tony @ MotorDyne the 5/16 spacer will make 1-2 hp less than the 1/2inch spacer.

According to my previous faulty readings and heatsoaked runs i did notice improvements throughout the power band by about 1-2 hp and peaking the power @ 6,250RPM the Power dies down about 3-5hp at 6,500RPM

Perhaps the ECU retards the timing so the Tranny can engage easier...

.... Kinda got a test out of the car today :P

an 07 G35 Sedan (306hp) happened to be at the red light with me and we played a bit (no traffic), and i had him from a 2nd gear roll till about 90mph but he was coming :P.... Nothing big yet he said WoW thats a fast 03... he said he'd taken a few already and this was the fastest he's seen so far...

That 07 is remarkable... I dunno if the one i tested sucked yet this one changed my mind! Good guy great runs

Anyways I will report my findings asap. BTW yes gas improvement by about 2-5mpg..... it adds up... Just stay off the throttle

That is for the 287hp 350z Engine... Yes... and No our stock numbers can vary from 200-210whp.... With a K&N Filter, and a Z-Tube the engine made an outstanding 226whp.

I never dyno'd it in stock form so i can not be precise about the gains.

The 1/2 fits Perfectly SNUG on the Sedan

As per my conversation with Tony it WILL NOT fit the Coupe... it will yet you will have to ditch the FACTORY engine cover.
