did a bad thing today.

well, this happened not 30 minutes ago.

i was at a red light at an on ramp to go on the freeway. i slowly crept forward and when it turned green, i smashed it thinking i had a nice clear path. (keep in mind, my lane merges with another one from a different offramp from a different freeway). as i smashed it getting ready to shift to 2nd gear, a car comes from the other lane and i take a glance still smashing and eventually going past 7100rpm and redlining it in first. the car stops ( i think it was the fuel cut off) waiting for me to shift.

that was a bad thing. did i do any damage to the engine?

and sorry if it wasn't very comprehensive or easy to understand.

Fuel cutoff is so you don't damage the engine. Don't worry, you didn't do any harm (I'm assuming you mean the "car stops" meaning it kept bouncing off the rev limiter, not that the car actually died...)

no harm no foul, i've done it a couple times on accident where i forget i put the car in MM. As long as you dont make it a habit, the car has its own ways of proctecting itself like you found out with the fuel cutoff

As others have said don't worry about it. You have just joined the "I BUMPED THE REV LIMITER CLUB." I am a charter member, welcome.

Happened to me when I spaced out and forgot to shift (thinking I was in D, instead of manumatic), not harm done.

It's fine. It's ignition cut, not fuel. Most of us call it rev limiter.

Yep, I'll confess, I've bounced off the rev limiter, oh, about 3 or 4 times.
