I was just in for service today and asked what it would cost to install the LSD on my '03.5 Sedan 6MT (manufactured Dec02 to be exact). They said according to the parts system and using my VIN number, I already have the LSD. Still don't believe it though, and am going to do more research. Can anyone confirm. I am almost positive my car does not have it.

 

If you already have one, then that goes against everything we've already been told.. that prior to '04, only 6MT Coupe's get the LSD. It's possible, though, that they started putting LSD's on the last of the '03.5's and didn't mention it to anyone, I suppose.

Your safe in sticking with the your positive it doesn't have it thinking, cause it doesn't. No 03.5 6mt sedan's have limited slip. Only the VDC brake activated slip system, which is NOT a viscious limited slip like the 04 6mt sedans get.

I have wondered about this. a while back I got pissed at this driver on the way to work. I ended up burning out to a point where the car got a little sideways The next day on the way to work I noticed two burn markes instead of one. Mine is an 3/03 build date. I would be happy to find out that it was really true that it has the LSD

Keep dreaming guys, no 03.5 6mt sedan has LSD, not unless you paid the $$$ like I did and have one swapped in. When ever job one occured for the 04 6mt sedan's, that's when the LSD became a reality and not a moment before that. Infiniti's Vin parts system is flat out uncontestably wrong of it says any 03.5 6mt sedan has LSD. You can stop wondering.

I have a 03.5 G35 Sedan and i have had the dealer verify that there is no hardware LSD on our cars.

They might be referring to LSD with the VDC..but its not the same.

 

The test for a limited slip differential is to jack up the rear of the car so both rear tires are off the ground. Put the transmission in neutral and spin one wheel. If the other wheel spins the same direction, then you have limited slip. If it spins the opposite direction, then you don't.

The owner's manual talks about "brake limited slip differential" which I understand to mean if one rear wheel slips, the brake will be applied automatically to that wheel to stop the slip, sending power to the other wheel in the process. Is this somehow quantumly different from a "real" LSD? What is the additional benefit to a true LSD?

Having driven both, I can tell you that there is a huge difference, especially in wet weather. If you had the LSD, you'd hardly ever feel a single rear tire break traction and the car start to fishtail. You can floor it in the rain at 40mph without any fear of breaking traction. With no LSD, unless you are very careful with the gas in the rain, you will break a rear tire loose constantly. It completely changes the personality of the car in wet weather. Adding a LSD should be near the top of the list of mods for anyone (not leasing) who does not already have one. And if you're going to spend the money, go for the Kaaz, not the OEM; it's even better.
