New Osram Headlight Output

Another name for this thread:
Why I spent 2 hours of work for minimal gains/changes but I'm OK with it.

Put these bad boys in today:

I used the DIY sticky on removing the headlights but couldn't find all the neccesary clips mentioned in the write-up. I ended up jacking up the car, removing the tire and then going to it. A little more work but I wanted to make sure I was doing it right. A picture of the two screws to remove to get out the underliner:

Also, I had a lot of trouble finding the three clips mentioned regardless of which way I turned the wheel. I ended up removing the wheel and here are the clips:

You also need to remove the 5 10mm screws from underneath the front lip of the bumper, pretty easy there. From that point, the DIY is on point, just finding the clips was a little difficult.

The light output unfortunately in my opinion didn't change a ton:
Stock Fogs

Osram Fogs

I was hoping the fogs would match the HID color better than I feel they do now but I haven't actually taken the car out for a drive in the dark. Maybe they'll look better then.

All in all, it took me a lot of work but I enjoy spending wrench-time on my car as I learn more and more about it and enhance my comfortability with modding on my own.

Sorry it wasn't what you expected. I could have told you that though. I did the exact same thing, noticed no real difference. If you look at the new and old bulb, they seem like they are almost exactly the same.

The Osram line is supposed to be much brighter. Maybe just the xenon?

To be honest with you, I had to go back and check to make sure I hadn't reinstalled the same bulb when I checked the output 1/2 way through. But again, I learned a lot from the experience. I guess next time I might try the PIAA's or something a little whiter although I'm not a huge fan of the "blue" bulb theory of lighting. We'll see..

These were white or yellow bulbs? Yellow fogs are just not my style. I'm really trying to get all of the lighting up front to match. Any other suggestions on bulbs that will better match the stock HIDs?

A lot of people seem to like PIAA, even though they are quite pricey. Stock HID is around 4300K I think, but as HID ages, it goes up in temperature (read: slightly more bluish/whitish). Finding something right around 5000K should work perfect. You might want to look into the slyvania silverstars, they have a very slight bluish tint on the bulb, they also have a higher color temperature compared to the osram ones.

Unfortunately i did the same thing. Thinking the osram silverstar would be the same as the sylvania's...i think its the slyvania cool blue that i should have gotten. the osram silverstars are just bit brighter than stock but still yellow.

Just a few suggestions to help you out next time you replace them.

- do your homework on a product before you but it..there's a thread on here recently of a guy who replaced his fogs w/ lights that match the xenon's perfectly (I think they're Ultinon or something like that)

- I just put in new fogs last weekend, after researching on here (went w/ the piaa yellow plasma ion 2500K yellow fogs & got them used from ttrank). No need to remove your tire for this install, unless your hands are the size of Andre the Giant. Just turn your wheel in towards the engine bay & remove 3 or 4 clips, bend the liner in & you can access the rear of the lights that way. I think it took me 1/2 hr. total to do it.
